If that’s the case, what’s the slot in the box that seems to come out from the hidden panel when I knock into whatever button it is when throwing it into park?

Sounded like to me the OP was asking what the single slot above the COMAND/NAV screen is.
In my car, that single slot will play music cd's and mp3 encoded cds. The little hidden doohicky you're talking about is the 6 disc cd changer.

What's MB going to do remove it when they add the changer ??

They should just build a credit card scanner in the next generation W212 where the single slot CD plaer is. Basically when the warning lights go on, you will see the warning description along with the cost of the warning. When you slide your credit card, the warning goes away. Just think of all the time it will save from having to visit the dealer. Maybe they can even sell you warning packages at a discount. i.e. pay for 2 warnings and the other warning is free.

Well, the point is that earlier model years can NOT play mp3's in the changer, only in the single slot cd player.
And even that, only after a Command software upgrade. Also, the changer is an option so for some folks the SSP is all there is.
