Question Re: Xenon Headlights

Are Bi-Xenon Headlights / Xenon Headlights standard on the 2003 W211?
If not, is there a way to differentiate them simply by looking at them?
Thank you for your help.

They are not standard on any MY E class. It is optional. If it was ordered with BIX lights then you should also have headlight washers (two triangle cutouts between the two lights on each side). There will also be a headlight wash button next to the on/off switch on the dash.

Some have bought OEM MB BIX lights and installed them and the only way to really tell is to either take out the bulb, look under the light assembly where the igniter is located or try to switch them on at night and you will see them go bright as they ignite and then dim a little down to where they should be. You can also ask the dealer to hook up the StarDiag computer ask see if the BIX option is set to 'on' in the system.

If car has headlight washers, it probably has Xenon headlights. If not, not.

I don't think that's true in the new model. I always thought that headlight washers and xenons were synonymous, but I learned that they're not. All of the '07s on my dealership's lot were E350s and E550s with P1. All had headlight washers. None had xenons...

Maybe this was true with prior years, but not with the current model. I had to special order my E550 with P2 to get xenons.

Yes particularly in the winter and they work very well, I think they are almost a necessity with slush and grime being thrown at the car

I defintately do. I have no idea if they help other than when there is road salt on them in the winter time. I just like doing it at stoplights to get other people's car's wet

Also handy when you are being tailgated

In which case, it can be used with the rear fog light

This is correct. The headlight washers are part of the no-charge sport package. They also are part of the P2 package, even if you don't get the sport package. There are a lot of base and P1 cars out there with the sport package with headlamp washers but without Bi-Xenon lights.
