Engine Ticking Solution
MB is coming out with redesigned motor mounts to resolve this issue. After many complaints at the dealership and raising hell with the service manager today, they decided to do some research on this problem, only to find out that a service bulletin had been issued on October 9th in regards to relsolving the engine ticking problem. Parts are scheduled to be here within the next month.
My E 500 still pulls slightly to the right, even after they did an alignment. Any suggestions?

Excellent - it's good to know that M-B has acknowledged this irritating (and often-mocked) problem!
I seem to remember a good alignment should rectify your pulling problem, as well as some software fix. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I have heard of cars chassis being tweaked causing the car to pull to one side. But the car that I hear about it on was a New Ford Cobra SVT. I would never suspect a Mercedes to have a chassis problem, but it could. There also could be a mounting problem that might need to be fixed. There are too many possibilities out there. You should be able to get the alignment papers when you get your alignment done. It should show the optimium alignment and the alignment that your car currently supposively has. The papers also state your camber and caster positions. Check those out! Im sorry to hear about your car pulling even after alignment. *Long Write UP of JUNK!*

Did your dealer perform an alignment on all four wheels? If not, make sure he does. On my E500, they found the alignment was off on both front and rear wheels. My tires had to be replaced also as they had flat spots. Good luck and thanks for the info about the service bulletin.

No, I don't have a copy of it. The service advisor wouldn't let me take the copy he had, but I did see it in person and read it for myself.
In response to Abe, yes they did perform an alignment on all four wheels...

Rajswift - A request
Thanks for the reply. I'd like to make a request for your assistance.
Is there any way you could get your service advisor to fax a copy of that TSB to you, and in turn somehow send it to me.
The reason: I am from Canada, and I went to my dealer to talk about this problem yesterdau after reading your informative post.
They have no idea about it because MBUSA and MB Canada do not talk to one another nor share info.
Should you manage to get it, my e-mail is hiunamwan@hotmail.com
Thanks in advance.

raj, i was going to pick my car today, but it had the ticking noise, only when starting out, ie.....going from 0-20, not like 50-60...also, on hills you can hear it, what should i tell my dealer if they didnt see the post by mb, should i say to check the motor mounts, or what?

no, the dealer said they will try to take care of it.....we might get it tomarrow, but most likely on monday....also, if anyine has an e500, i suggest getting chrome rims on your car, it make the car much better looking, and they look like they are bigger than 17's....only 690 bucks!

there may be a noisy engine mount problem but there is no way that ticking sound is from engine mounts. I cant wait to hear what your MB dealer says on monday. Also, make sure that they give you a service / warranty receipt for whatever they do to the car, even if it is pre delivery.

well, we have stone interior....so we said we needed floor mats, and our sales person said he can get us clear ones, like, under some of your chairs that you use your cpu with....the clear spikey stuff

Yeah, the engine mount solution seems a little weak, but at least the problem is getting some focus from them.
But it's wierd, the E500 that I drive a week ago did not have the noise whereas the other 3 did (all were Sport editions - hmmm)...
So after putting off the decision to buy for quite some time, I decided to order a non-Sport version, and hoping that M-B will fix that stupid ticking sound if mine has it.

Nam and bmms8,
I've tried to contact my service advisor to see if he can fax me the bulletin that he showed me and he hasn't called back. I'll try to contact him once again on Monday morning and post details later.

E-500
ticking and pulling
I am expecting my E500 shortly...concerned with all the posts here and in other threads about the "ticking" and alignment problems.
Would not expect that on any new car let alone a MBZ.
My car was built about October 12th or so. From the sound of it this problem was identified and a "fix" designed for it before that.
I wonder if I can expect that they corrected whatever it was on the line.
I will be very "ticked" if I have to deal with this problem after all that some of you have gone thru.
