Tailight Bulbs
According to MB, you need to replace the whole bulb assembly part (MB calls it the "carrier" or "socket plate"). When you take it out, take a look at the connections to see if the bulbs can be unsoldered and replaced.
I am not sure if it can be done, but it sure beats paying $45 for the whole thing to change a stupid $1.00 bulb!!
I have never in over 25 years experience seen such an idiotic design. What where they thinking!!!!

OK, made your point, did not know that. Still, what would it matter if they put a socket and specify a specific type of bulb to be replaced? That would still keep the integrity of the circuit.

The bulbs are supposed to be long life ones, and are according to my experience. If you change one, if would not make sense to change only one but the rest at the same time anyway. The long life bulbs may make the most of the cost after all. Also the bulb connections have been an issue in the past, a special bulb connector could help but would further increase the cost. I vote for the current approach.

, but what if I wanted to replace it with a $2 or $3 BOSCH bulb? Huh? Huh? Not so crappy anymore, huh?
