W211 Mud Flaps question

Dear all,

I have read that some of you have installed mud flaps on your W211s. I have an Alabaster White W211 and the lower fenders get dirty immediately after a car wash. Do the mud flaps actually work, and where can I get them (and how much). Also, would any of you be kind enough to show me how they look?

Thanks!

Mdreef

The flaps would not stop dirt completely, mainly help at low speed and at higher speeds against stone chips to the side. Water spray would anyway get diffused behind the flaps and at least some dirt would reach your sides.

Not sure if black flaps work on a white car, the tyre and the wheel well anyway are black. On my W221 I have painted flaps, black on my W211 but the car is silver. Could take a close photo, this attached figure is from the MB German web, from their accessories.

Note that the flaps are different according to the Classic/Elegance/Avantgarde options, what ever corresponds to the plastic parts of your car (at the side, bottom).

I want to put (rear only) mud flaps on my 08 Sport when I get it.
Just for looks. They give the rear a little lower and broader look,
which I think most cars today need. There seems to be kind of a
“nose dive” look in most new cars which I hate. I like the “level”
look .. instead of the rear end sticking up.

However, I note that the MB literature says MB mud flaps aren’t
available for the Sport. When I get it ... this week I hope - I will
have the shop take a look to see if they can fit them.

Color: I have black mud flaps on my white Corvette. Black’s the
ONLY color for mud flaps. (Black matches the tires.)

==========

In days - ‘08 E350 Sport, P2, Black/black,
Parktronic, Voice, Bluetooth, Burl Walnut,
Split rear seat, Rear mud flaps, nose star

Yes, all flaps I know come black but for the W221 they emphasized that the flaps are intended to be painted to the car colour. The surface may have been different on those compared to the OEM W211 flaps.

Considering the US sports model, I believe it used to be the same as the Euro avantgarde (for the flap area specifically). It may have changed since the sports option was introduced in Europe (I don't think this Euro Sports is the same as the one in the US, you can have Avantgarde and sports combined here). From EPC it would be possible to check if the parts really fit. From an earlier discussion I remember it being difficult to find MB OEM flaps in the US, I think one member ordered those from Europe, but they did fit his car.

Look at this thread and others regarding mud flaps: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/78334-e320-mud-flaps.html Also, look at the link in my signature to see how a silver W211 looks with the mud flaps.

Front mudflaps available

If you're interested, I've got a pair of the front mudflaps available. I'd sell them for $20 + shipping. Pretty easy to mount/install, ie. 2-clips and one screw on each side.

i actually have a full set of four on my alabaster white e500... they look rather unobtrusive and are quite functional (especially on our white cars)

i may take mine off soon though, to make the car look a little more sporty. any one intersted make me an offer for all 4.

Thanks to you all for your input and great photos, especially Jim Purdy...man, that sure is a fine looking car!

E500 benzo, do you have any good photos that would show the mud flaps on your alabaster white? If I like the photo then I would be happy to take them off your hands...

OK, could be that the US sports has the same body parts on the side on all model versions. In Europe the shape of the side moulding is definitely different for Avantgarde compared to Classic, Elegance should be one of the two. The mud flaps need to adapt to the shape of the side moulding.

Simplifies if US cars are all the same.

Painting mud flaps

I have same car as you and want to get mud flaps, but I was thinking of painting them white with Krylon plastic spray paint (good stuff...very durable). What do you think of that idea?

Whew! Almost $140...plus shipping for a set of four. That's brutal for some molded plastic.

I guess they think they have you by the short hairs...or just don't buy and let them keep their over-priced plastic.

Look at it as saving $500 for having to repaint the rocker panels.

I bought my flaps from a MB Dealer a couple years ago for full price but if you belong to the MB Club of America, many MB Dealer's Parts Depts will give you a 10% discount. Also, even better, I've bought genuine MB Parts from GetMercedesParts.com for a good discount.......it's the online discount parts dept for MB of Annapolis MD..........suggest you go online an check their prices. The photo of my vehicle shows the flaps.......I think they look pretty good with a white vehicle like mine.

PARTSMAXX.COM

I looked long and hard and the best deal is PARTSMAX.COM who sell the oem mud flaps for $60 a pair (front or rear) plus $9.95 shipping.

Still VERY expensive for some molded plastic, but they are custom fit and they are all there is.

Is this for the painted version or do you need to paint this yourself?

There is only one version of the oem mud flaps. They are black plastic and are intended to be painted by the owner or not. I think that for a non-metalic white, like I have, Krylon spray paint for plastic would work fine. At least for the part not facing the tires.
