That has been superseded by a 6-7-87-5878 which will work with almost all the PDA type phones.
Your current puck will NOT work with a lot of the Pda's.

I have this unit. Do you know if it will receive/upload my address book from the cell? Also, does it work with Text Messaging? I can't figure this out and the the book has no instructions. Can the firmware be upgraded?

The PUCK is the adapter.

I believe text messaging is only supported if you have a phone that is permanently installed in the car from MB.

It doesn't matter if the phone is CDMA or GSM. Your phones needs to have bluetooth.

I think address book syncing will only work with the newer model adapter B67875878.

The pairing manuals can be found at:
http://www.mercedes-benz-mobile.com/extra/legacy/usa/index2.html

It is not clear to me what the difference is between the two modules, other than size and color.

I have the black one in my 2008 E550 (bought off eBay) and it works great with my Blackberry Curve, including downloading the contacts list.

For what it's worth...

I may not be adding much, but here goes...

I have a 2004 MY E320, which came with the full telephony options (phone cradle, wiring, control column stalk, etc)

I've had a puck, B67 87 5856, for about 6 months. It does support address book syncing. It works pretty well, but occasionally needs re-cradling/rebooting. Voice quality is fine.

It is not that common for cell phones to support text over Bluetooth. I have a very, very plain phone and I cannot text using the puck and car features (neither incoming or sending). The SMS "button" on the car's display is grayed out.

I have no idea if the cars head-unit even "knows" there is a puck in the car, after all, the puck is supposed to simulate a phone to the car. So I suspect the text support between the puck and the phone is the key to the question.

So, in summary, check that the phone even supports text over Bluetooth before you assume the car/puck is the texting issue.

All of this could be god's way of saying not to text while driving.
