SPACERS - bad experiences

spacers are unlikely the cause of wheel coming off. sounds more like
someone got lazy and didn't purchase a longer lug bolt (MB) or did not take
into consideration the short lugs on for non MB wheels. notwithstanding the
misplaced fear mongering, use of spacers is usually a cheap *** cure for poor
wheel purchases - like shoving tissue in a bra, or socks in your shorts.
better to have purchased wheel with the proper offset.

On the E class the front hub is very long, you can easily run a 10mm or larger non "hubcentric" type spacer (this is what I have) with PLENTY of hub left over for the rim to mount onto. However, you must be VERY CAREFUL when tightening the lugs. You must tighten them while the car is in the air, and use 3-4 incrementally increasing torque settings in a star pattern.
If someones wheels are falling off it means they are using an incorrect bolt length, incorrect torque specs, or a spacer that is too thick (I wouldnt go over 25mm).
