So as some of you may have read in a previous thread of mine, I was quoted a very good price with the netster paper and David Michaels agreement worked out. I just had to go back and put the down payment on the e350 4matic... Well, I get there and they take the papers to make it official and come back with different papers with different figures... I protest and say there is a mistake, on his way to the back office I mention to bring me back the two papers I came in with with the handwriting on it as well. He comes back again with two new papers, claiming he fixed everything and shows me the old figures without showing me the options and such listed. I notice in his hand the paper says P01, I tell him I wanted the P2 package and he claimes that I never mentioned that. I then proceed to ask for the original papers that I came in with, and I can show him everything that has been worked out. The story seems to be repetitive and long.. well... it happend another time and then I cursed him out, pointed my finger vigorously and abused him in the middle of the showroom floor when he mentioned due to the mishaps that had happened he wants to make me happy with my 56,500 offer which was over 2k different.


By the way.. one good positive that came from this is I think I may pay the extra for the 550!!!!!! Any opinions on what makes some of you E class owners stay with E class OVER CLS???

Yes, that is the link I was refering to. By the way... side note.. I will not go to a CLS from an E class. I have more loyalty when it comes to cars, than I do my women. Pathetic I know! Since 96 I been in love with the E class.

Thanks for the report. It’s helpful to hear “various” dealer reports.

Both good and bad. Since thousands of dollars are involved in any
car purchase, it’s easy to make a several thousand dollar mistake.

It's a good idea to always make copies of docs you plan on giving to someone else.

but I think the old adage "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" applies here. The price you were quoted is around $2K below invoice for that car. Hard to imagine why a dealer would do that on an 08 at this point in the year.

If the dealer screwed up, he should have just admitted it and
apologized.

Anyway, since you didn’t accept the deal when it was offered
the dealer has no obligation to honor it later. (Unless .. there
was a bilateral written agreement.)

Written - even tho it’s not real estate - only because a verbal
agreement in that case would be next to impossible to prove.

I've seen $1500 below invoice on a special order 08 E550. I'm assuming its because the car is close to the end of production.

David Michaels is a dealership that hasa bad reputatio nand is currently in a lawsuit I hear. I purchased a car yesterday and will addanother post about the details.

I wound up going to Contemporary Motor Cars of Little Silver to purchase:

for 64,900 and then with the taxes, gas guzzler and so forth ended up at 71,200 (estimated due to the fact i dont have the paper right here +/- $70)

I had to put down $3k



ALSO the outrageous thing is that it wont be delivered till middle of Nov!!! weird in my opinion

Something about my car (08 e550 4matic) are now made to order specific. They will not be making these anymore and sending them over to the united states without orders being processed. I am unsure if I can believe him on his every word, but he said that he will do his best and keep up on the car. The delivery date is also probably later due to some of the options I got? I dont know for certain.

Good catch about the CLS. It's really an E in a sleaker shell.

I just loved the shape, but when I sat in it, I jumped right back to the E-Class. I felt decidedly cramped in the front seat, and the back seat was claustraphobic.

I concur with this statement bc I was at a dealer a few weeks ago to service. While I was in the showroom window shopping the salesman ask me if I was interested it a trade for the new E class. The dealership have a 90 sale gimmick meaning that if you want to buy any car from them, withing 90min you are walk out the door with ur new car. So he was show me the new 350 on the in the showroom. I ask him I need a 550 he said they dont order those for stock. Then he said do I know the different between the 350 and 550. I was said the engine and he said "yes and that's it". I laughed and I told him the engine is very important to me.

Good thing they dont have 550s in stock bc I would have probably walk out there with a new car in 90mins....lol

I thought the 08 E550 had no gas guzzler tax. I know there is another thread where this was discussed already, but I thought that was the conclusion reached.

it seems like they are really pushing the 350s. While I was chilling snacking on the free food I over heard a salesperson telling a customer, "350 is the way to good you get the same room inside w/o the gas. Who would buy a 550 with to days gas price". I thing the customer with for it. bc I notice the same customer signing some documents.

I ordered an 08 E550 instead of the E350 but honestly, it was a close decision. I rarely have passengers, so 4 zone climate, not really worth it ... I've never had active vent seats, so no idea until I get the car and its 100F outside how it'll do. Yes, the E550 has a lot of power, but the E350 isn't that bad. I'm in SoCal .. so the E550 is going to take me from one red light to another red light and one traffic jam to another traffic jam a few seconds quicker ..

Ultimately I went w/ the E550 because I wanted Airmatic (the avg person can't even tell between Airmatic and non-Airmatic), I wanted the vent seats because quite a few people told me its worth it, and instead of paying for metallic paint and leather, its included in the price.

You can get the E350 w/ the AMG Sports Pkg and 95% of all the other options, so the E550 isn't for everyone and isn't worth it for everyone.

Oh yeah... the 350 is fine & does everything well. The 550 is just a huge self indulgence. There's no real reason to get it. For me it was honestly just to be one of the fewer number of 550 owners. Youre right... I can only go from stop sign to stop sign & at speed on a highway, they'll both go as fast as you need to go effortlessly.
