Do you think this is ideal?

I got this pic from an earlier thread.

I wanted to know if this was an idead setup? Since it appears to be possible, would the new E320/500 need modifications in the front and rear fenders? I assume they used 245/35/20. I emailed Dab design (makers of this wheel) and they told me it was OK to fit 20s on the new E and suggested 245/35/20 tires for 20 x 9.

Not sure about the ride but it couldnt be that far off from 19s.. could it?

Re: Do you think this is ideal?

I'm in the wheels business and yes it is possible to run 245/35/20 on a 20x9.0. however 245 on a 9.0inch wheel would look a little tight.

In my case, I will be running 19x8.5 ET31 19x9.5 ET31
245/35/19 285/30/19.

I sell those FAB desing wheels but they do weight a lot.

Crazy4Cars,

Thanks for the info. I wonder what they did to the suspension. Is E31 the ideal offset for this car?

Yes, ET31 is the correct offset for this car. And you dont have to modify anything to the suspension.

crazy4cars, 18" wheels will give a rougher ride than 17"s right? Is there a tire that can be used with 18"s that is not quite as low a profile tire? For example my 2000 E430 had 235/45 17's. My E500 has 245/45 17's. Can I get an 18" wheel and keep the same size tire? and will that be a significant difference in ride than my old E430. As you can tell I know a lot about wheels/tires!!

If you have all wheels the same width, then the 255/45/18 should work on all 4 corners.

I did a Lexus GS400 and a 740il old style with those tires and both customers were happy as hell because they got rid of the low profile problem for once and for all.

I haven't try them yet on a W211 but I'm 90% sure that they will fit.

Crazy4Cars,

When u say nothing for the suspension. Do you mean in that pic they didn't use lower springs etc?

I know they put lowered springs for 19" setups, do you think they need to for 20"? If not would the wheels hit the wheel well easily on bumps?

Yokomo, you have several options.

1) If your car is the avantgarde version, you dont need to buy anything as far as springs goes, the car is lowered enough to look like the one on your pic with either 19's or 20's.

2) If your car has airmatic, you can lower it enough to look like the one on your picture.

3) If you car is not an avantgarde or doesn't have airmatic, then you will need springs which are not available yet.

By the way, what car do you have and where are you from.

Take a look of the attached pic and you will see clearly that the avantgarde model does not need lowering springs when going 19's or 20's.

Crazy4Cars,

Thanks for the explanation. I currently do not have an MB. I am driving a 2002 BMW 330CI. I am selling it and right now I am debating on what I should get next. I really like the CLK320/500 & E320.

That is why I am asking about the wheels. I usually upgrade the wheels on my pass cars. Currently have the BBS CH in 19s.

I like the E a bit more and do not plan on getting the sport package. I like the wheels and that is why I am asking so many questions.

I notice the pic looks good. do u think the bigger wheels will hit the wheel well?

I am in Toronto Canada.

If you have the right offset's and tire width it will not.
