I just returned from my local MB parts dept. I was going to purchase a puck with tail for my 2003 E320. They said my car needs to be converted to "digital" first. As everyone knows my Teleaid is still analog.

My understanding (please correct me) is that the puck with tail uses your phone, and not the build in teleaid phone. So even if i don't convert my teleaid to digital, (and i dont plan to) will my puck with tail will still work?

Is this correct? In the defense of MB, they said they have not installed one yet, and all they know is what is in the MB announcement.

Come one guys chime in, i really need this puck thing....

i have a 04 with analog and its working just fine , i dont know what happens after jan 1 08 but as of now it works

My MB dealer told me the same thing about having to convert the TeleAid to digital. They simply don't know about the puck w/ tail which is whay they think that. Let them know that it is not necessary.

All they need to do is update the software of the head unit and use the "star" computer to program it so that the phone system is set to "fitted". I just did it yesterday and it is working flawlessly - and I'm using a non-approved phone....

I don't know for sure because i updated my teleaid at the same time i got the puck with tail; however, i can't see why that would be the case-the puck with tail only makes use of the phone WIRING installed in the car, NOT the teleaid module's connection to the outside world-your phone is for that.

SO i say ask them to put it in and try it, and let you get your parts money back and just pay the 1 hour labor charge.

Puck/tail is fine in my 03E500.

im also using a non approved phone on my 04 e320 and its working fine im very pleased with it

Thanks guys, that is what i was thinking, the Puck with tail runs independently of the Teleaid.

Keep in mind, these are the same guys that told me NAV could not be installed in my 2003. I proved them wrong. NAV was a very easy...

I will go ahead and get it, book my appt to have StarDiag done, My COMAND has the latest software already!!!!

Go for launch...

BTW, i have a blackberry 8703e from sprint...Its not on the list. But If i get handsfree with comand dialing and buttons on the steering wheel working. I will be happy. And if the phonebook downloads thats a bonus.!

Where would be the best place to purchase the P w/ T? Dealer wants $388 and wont budge...wouldn't even commit to the version coding for free.

on ebay had them for 350.00 your not going to save much on the p.t but maybe on the install/version coding you could, it cost me 600.00 for it and i dropped it off at 9 by 2 my car was ready cleaned and phone kit worked

works fine with my 03 e320. using a blackberry curve from boost. but i cant see my contacts on dash so hoping the version coding will make it work with all the features does anyone know?

Phil3path, I have a 2003 E320 also and I am considering the puck with tail. May I ask, can you answer and hang up from the steering wheel? If you press the voicecommand button on your curve, can you still voicedial? Does the display show a phone connected or not?

right now the steering wheel doesnt control it but the blue tooth works just fine. As soon as you get the version coding done then everything works . all functions and buttons on steering wheels work and you can see your contacts on the steering wheel. so the answer is yes everything works!

Ditto. Mine has been woring fine for about 2 years, using 'unapproved' blackberry.
