Design buck or the real thing ?
For MB's sake, I sure hope you are right. But take a look at both of the photos above. The 2nd one, with a partially hidden upper dash, clearly shows the same details as the first. 
Both photos show the identical angular steering wheel now found in the C Class !!!
I would very much doubt that at this late stage of prototype testing that MB would be using dash "mock-ups".

The photos aren't dated, so how do we know at what stage of the production cycle those photos are from?

I sure hope that these photos prove to be inaccurate. However, IF they turn out to be true, my guess is that a large number of W211 owners will take a pass on the W212.

that looks like it could date to 1995 and be a mock-up of what the w210 dash could be based on the w124
i highly doubt the new e will look anything like that, if anything they just mocked up controls for the underlying electronics to hide what the real interior looks like.

wishful thinking guys, that is not a mock up.
If you remember back in 2001 or 2002 we saw pictures of similar quality of the W211 interior... and it was dead on.
Not to mention same thing with the W/V221, everyone was grossed out by the dash. Now everyone loves it.

The W211 is the most gorgeous interior around. I love the fluid curves. The graceful expanding wood inserts. Not an angle to be seen.
I just hate pop up navigation screens. For me it would always be open. I like it being the focus of COMAND.
I'm really nervous, I assumed the new interior would come from the S-Class, not the crappy C-Class. I see the S-Class is a nice variant of the BMW 7 Series. I can live with, but I'd really rather stay as close as possible to the current W211. All we really need is a bigger nav screen.
I really love the analog clock I have now. I did like that it was still there as the square clock in the S-Class is so Infiniti.

Don't worry, I'll be getting one.... and then you guys will learn to love it. I'm just telling you. This is nothing new, anytime a new model is introduced. Initially it seems extreme, ugly, or strange but truthfully it is something different than what you are used to. Soon, the previous generation/model starts to feel dated. And if you try to tell me otherwise, then I will just say.... exactly.

what am I doing here??.Don't get me wrong I'm a gadget guy and I really liked what they have offered on the M, but the ride quality and the rich feel are way below my almost 4 year old E.
I can't wait till the new E is out

In my opinion, and it's just an opinion...it looks like a fake. Why would the photo be such bad quality during times when digital photography is so good. Even the cheapest of phone cameras takes better photos than that. Do you really think that MB designers would design such ridiculous interiors?

Actually .. did anyone notice the accelerator/throttle pedal? It looks like the pedal from my 1989 420SEL and *NOT* from an E-Class.
Something is VERY VERY fishy with that photo. Looks like someone took a very old car, went to the scrap yard, found a busted up S-Class, put the dash inside a very old MB, and took the photo and sold it to some car mags.
No joke. The more I study the photo, the more I'm convinced its fake.
The second smaller photo, well, that looks like a mock-up where they use whatever spare parts there are to make the electronics function in a test car.
Lastly, do you REALLY think MB would allow someone access to the new E-Class and thenallow them to take photos? Doubtful.

Amazing how worked up people get over such an unofficial picture. It is clearly a mock up based on spy photos, not an official picture. That said, it is probably very close, but with some detail changes.
