Normally this would signal problems with the fuel injection system, exhaust system, or the ignition system. In addition the starter fuse in the driver signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) might be malfunctioning whereas the currently installed 15 Amp fuse is replaced with a 20 Amp fuse - Fuse20A (part # N072581000306). Have a dealer or independent shop check it.

Today my E started doing the same thing. I turned the car off at a store, went in for a few minutes; when I came out the starter cranked real fast about 10 times but the engine wouldn't start.

It has since returned to normal.

I read another post the says the Crankshaft Position Sensor could be bad.

What should I do????????

CLASSIC SYMPTOMS OF CRANKSHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR. Just replaced mine was doing exactly the same. Cold start was fine - when warmed up or short drives, it would crank and crank before starting. Next stage is that it will shut off the car at idle on traffic lights. Part is liek$35-$60 online. one 8E bolt and 15 mins of time (it is externally mounted. Search for "CPS"

Thanks Moby!

This was starting to freak me out. I'll get right on it and let you know.
