Extended Warranty after factory expired
My factory warranty expired at 50k miles. I now have 64k miles on my '04 E500. Does anyone have experience with purchasing an extended warranty from an organization other than the dealer after the factory warranty expired? I investigated a group called "Dealer Services" backed by Warrantech out of Dallas. I already know that this company is not affiliated with my MB "dealer", and I'm aware that it takes a lot of investigation to find a company that isn't a scam and has a warranty offer that will still cover my vehicle. This one seemed potentially good at first, but they wouldn't allow me to consider the offer and get back to them. The guy said if I declined on the phone call, since my car was over 50k miles, that I would be on their offer delete list and the offer would no longer be available to me on any subsequent calls. That's the oldest sales trick in the book, I know. I simply wanted to talk over the terms with my wife prior to laying down a deposit. Obviously, I hung up and did not consider this further as it would appear to be less than professional to disallow someone to talk it over with a spouse and call them back at a later time... I'm looking around to see if there are any success stories out there that are worth investigating. Please let me know your preferences or guidance.

After market warranties can be good I had one on a 99 Lincoln. However after buying the warranty my Lincoln dealer put up a sign,, "Only Ford Warranties Accepted" So if you chose a warranty check with the shop you want to do your work to see if they are accepted.
Also several warranty companies went under so check with BBB to confirm they are good business. Basically don't just buy on what the Warranty co. states,, check them out.
These are the reasons I bought a MB warranty and have our E500 taken directly to Mercedes for work under the MB warranty. I would be disappointed to own a MB, have an after market warranty and the MB dealer not accept it. Sometime you must to go to the MB dealer. Best of luck Jim

For those who have a dealer that will accept any aftermarket warranty I wish you the best of luck. Jim

Thanks much to all. I appreciate your advice and will look into WD and several others. I will say that the "Dealer Services" operation was a bit shady, so anyone trying them should be warned on their unprofessional sales tactics.

D'oh! I was looking for an extended warranty for my S55 and checked out Warranty Direct. Unfortunately AMGs are specifically ineligible. I know this was a W211 thread, I just ran across it while doing a search...
