Key Fob Issue!!!

Hi everyone,

Was wondering if anyone had this problem....I have a 05 W211 and it seems that I have to be closer and closer to my car to unlock it with the "Keyless Go"!! Last month, the Keyless Go worked from distances up to ~50 feet. Now, it seems more like 10-15 feet is the max.

Is this a battery problem? Key Fob problem? Sensor problem?

Thanks in advance!

You say "Keyless Go" function, but you mean "Remote Unlock" You have to be in the car to start it what with stepping on the brake, pressing the start button & having the key in there with you. That can't be done from 50 feet away, or even 3 feet away.

Generally when the range for "Unlock" starts to shorten, its the weakening of the 2 batteries in the Smart Key that are starting to shorten the range of signal transmission.

Didn't you see Dateline or one of those shows? They're using portable rolling code recorders/generators - the most popular way to crack the MB key system. Yes, they interfere with the key transmitters. And they can transmit and generate an approximate next "open" code. Did you ever find your door mysteriously unlocked w/o an alarm in CT?

Haven't seen any of those shows but sampling a key code would not need a transmitter that makes the MB system not able to open doors. A single capture on a rolling code system would not really help more than removing one option from the whole sequence code space. You would need to capture a sequence of codes and even then run an exhaustive calculation on a really fast computer, if the system has no flaws, you would still end up to several options, depending how many samples you got.

But having all sorts of poor electronics devices, or even approved ones in quantities, would be able to block the RF part of the remote key.
