Question Dumbest of newbie dumb questions...wheres my CDC in E500 wagon?

There's no easy way to save my embarrassment, so here goes...

1 week and 2 days owner of 2004 E500 wagon. Stuck in traffic today, and was reading the windshield sticker which was on the car when I got it from an Ebay dealer. It seems I have a CDC (CD changer for the searches in the future). It isn't in the back next to the Nav DVD unit. Nor the glove box.

Could one of you very kind MB peeps tell where the germans hid my CDC :o)

Thanks in advance,
jim

If you have an in-dash 6-disc, there should be a small silver button in the middle of the front center console just below the hazard (red triangle shaped) indicator..When you push it, there should be a retractable door that opens and the 6 disc in dash is behind the door. If you have a non in-dash 6 disc, it would be in the glove compartment.

I'll have a look for that. If memory serves I just have the ashtray below the hazard button. I'll also look again in the glove box, maybe it is in the back or something.

I soooooooo wanted to just pull over on the LIE this morning and hunt around for it

Thank you much for the tips!!
jim

PS The main ashtray is such a waste of space isn't it? I smoke, but I am never smoking in my "new" car, nor is anyone else who wants a ride. It just like, prime real estate in the dash area, and I can't use it for anything. Gripe over...

The retractable door always impresses people who first see it. Its all automated and fancy. I do like the fact that that its location is accessible to the driver, and also hidden from view when the door is closed. Enjoy!!

Not sure if you knew, but in case your vehicle didn't come with an owner's manual, you can view and download it when you register at www.mbusa.com (Click "Owner's Online" link).

I agree about the ashtray. I don't smoke and would've preferred a storage compartment. It's the two in the back that annoy me though. I don't even let people eat my car -- much less, smoke.

Not the first time this question is asked. Perhaps it is not very obvious how the CDC door works but this also shows if the users read the car manual, even once they face a problem. Questions are ok for me still, things are sometimes a bit hidden in the manual.

The ashtray insert can be removed, leaving you with a storage area larger than the tray.

One cool thing you'll discover is that you can open the windows and sunroof remotely from outside the car with the key FOB...Great for summer.

Thats the "hold down the unlock" button trick, right? I'm keeping a list on my blackberry. Different welcome screens on the Nav screen, the British chick navigator, etc. I only discovered yesterday that I had auto wipers. It hadn't rained since I got the car

I am so glad I got the Merc!

Thanks again, you guys are wonderful!!

Thanks. I knew that already, but I would've preferred something felt-lined if only to absord the sound of shifting loose change. Right now, I use the small compartment next to the glovebox designated for mobile phones and eyeglasses.

MBUSA Part # A2116830051 Lining – custom fit rubber mat to line the bottom when removing the ashtray and using the space for storage. It was standard for MY03 & 04 then discontinued as standard equipment.

How does one access the "British chick navigator"?

and in 03-04 it's standard storage spot is on the interior of the glove box door-they went so far as to design a little holder for it!!!

Well, for me, I have to buy her dinner first. Or else no access :o)

No really (that was bold and sexist, I'm so embarrassed :o) a link I found very useful is this:
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...=change+accent. If this doesn't work the thread is entitled:
