Buzzing in front speaker

I have an '05 E320 with the Harman-Kardon stereo. Occassionally the speaker in the dash produces a buzzing sound as if the speaker is blown or something is vibrating with the bass impulse. When I turn the car off for a while it goes away. Any ideas?

The Audio Gateway (AGW) maybe your nemesis here. Take it to the dealer and ask them to do two things:

1. AGW is where all errors pertaining your audio system are stored. Ask the dealer to read fault errors to see if anything comes up.

2. Ask the dealer to re-flash AGW with the latest firmware.

If nothing helps it may require replacing AGW all together. Expect to pay around $1000 for a new AGW plus labor (if your car is out of warranty).

Hope this helps.

Mine rattles too, like its blown, something metallic is resting on the speaker cone, or the grill itself is rattling...It is one of the most annoying things I've ever experienced. If I put my hand on the grill, it seems to lessen it, but even at low volumes it rattles as if some of the music with center imaging is causing it... please help. I can't believe its needing just a software update. I've already had the new gateway put in and it didnt fix it... Any guidance is appreciated.

If you are under warranty, mention DTB P-B-82.62/537 – Center fill speaker in instrument panel whirs/clatters/sound distorted.Felt strips will be installed to the vent cover, speaker, and flap mechanism.
