Whats the difference between E55, E500 Sport grill?

Im looking to buy the E55 grill, it looks so much more cleaner then my stock E500 non sport edition. Is there a big difference in the two or is it just the angles of the pictures im seeing on this forum.

If you want a meaner look you can upgrade to the 07 bumper and grill

Don't you need a new hood too if you go this route?

I just compared the 2 hoods side by side in the garage and they appear to be the same. I know a couple have already done this conversion, you may want to confirm with them. I know theres an 07 sport bumper and grille on ebay right now for the cheap..

Are you talking about the horizontal ones? The AMG/Avanguarde are the same as the E500 Sport ones right?

I saw that sale on ebay too. I just thought that the way that the grille mounted to the hood was different because of the shape of it. I don't know either.

The hoods the same....it's the bottom half of the grill that is different than the 06 and below. That's why you have to change the bumper.

If you look at the top of the grille, where it meets the hood, the old one sits recessed while the new grille actually covers the lip of the hood. Is it still possible to mount it to the older hoods?

I don't think it should be a problem. I ordered a full AMG E63 body kit and they told me that I didn't need to replace the hood just the bumper and grill.

Uncle,

Can you show me pics or link me to what you are talking about? I have a Black 2003 E500 sport, with the OEM grille on it (chrome with black painting between slats). I didnt think there was a difference between my grille and any other grille on the 03's (e55, e320, or e500).

A side by side comparison would be nice if yo or anyone else can provide one.

Other way around on number of slats, the Avantguard aka AMG E55 grill has 5 slats and are black/chrome only OEM colors I know of). The other grilles have 4 slats and are silver/chrome (only OEM colors I know of). Tons of pictures on these forums.

Hahahahahaha! I just love the look of the E63 Kit. The gills on the side of the front bumper are sick!

I've got all that I need now...amg exhaust & wheels are in the garage just waiting to be put on. I may put the exhaust on this weekend and do cut outs while I wait for the kit.

Your Avantguard/AMG grill is pictured above (5 slats black/chrome). Here is the other grill.

Count the number of horizontal slats in the grill (using your mouse pointer) one has 4, the other has 5 slats within the grille.

OK, my pic is clear, and it shows 5 slats. that says mine is the avantgard/amg grille. Correct?

As far as the 4 slat 'non amg or sport' grille, there is not 1 pic on here that shows it clearly enough to count...

You are correct. Also, on the grille that has 5 (AMG/Avantguard/Sport), the horizontal inserts are black. On the version with 4, the inserts are grey.

Thanks Ryda. Now I get it. I didnt even know that there was a difference until now. I thought the grey was for silver cars, and the black was for black cars! Guess not!

Thanks,

Thanks guys, so now that we have this cleared up where can I purchase a Avant garde "sport" grille with the 5 slates? That grille is so much nicer then my current 4 slate grille.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FRONT...spagenameZWDVW

OR

If you want OEM new, call the dealer and get the part #, then try the OEM parts website someone just posted on this forum recently, it looked to have good pricing on OEM parts. Get a VIN off ebay of a car with the right grille, makes things easier when calling the dealer.

OR

Try the classifieds here or watch ebay for someone that went to the giant star grille.
