Top speed 135mph?

Hi, I just purchased a '03 E500 and wanted to see how the car performance is. I went on the freeway and tried to max out the car, but once the car hits 135mph, the car stops going. Anyone have this problem? I read and was told the top speed was 155mph. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

USA cars come with H-rated tires. Therefore speed is limited to 130 to conform with tire speed rating.

Going 135mph is nuts, I test drove my E350 only up to 100mph. Here in CA you get caught over 100mph you car gets taken away and a night in jail.

I'm from San Francisco, California. I only wanted to test how the car performed. Kind of disappointed that it doesn't go up to 155mph as it was stated.

Have you been to Germany? You realize these cars are intended to go at least that fast.

Yes, to me too it is good to have different and wider views and not only consider the US roads and traffic when talking about MB cars. But the US roads and traffic would not support the car speeds that autobahns do, the lower top speed on US cars seems reasonable then. On the other hand, many other European countries do not have as good highways as those in the US and still allow 250 km top speed. It must be to let us try this when visiting Germany.

For those interested, he's saying that German drivers are trained better. Most likely correct in the past. But most of the teenagers in the U.S. are now being trained on the latest and greatest of driving technologies. Of course, I'm talking about Need 4 Speed on the XBOX.

From what I've been told, it is also harder to pass the drive test and it requires more to obtain a driver license in Europe.

Judgeing by your comments and that video, there is a sense of frustration with the speed limiters in your cars. I don't blame you.....I hated having the goverment in mine as well. Alas, mine is gone! My SL55 will do 202. Yours may not be that fast....but it can be faster AND quicker.

.......we can give your car freedom from limits, as well as find some hidden power in those engines!

As a W211 guy/girl who is frustrated with your limiter, mention this thread.......and we will give you 15% off your tuning through 11/18/2007

There are many areas in the US that have roads good enough to allow unlimited speed, those huge straight interstates with several empty lanes in each direction only have a speed limit to generate revenue for the respective government organizations.

What we are forgetting is that just because cars are not limited or roads may not be, the responsibility is on the driver. It always has been and always will be. It is common to see people driving slowly on the Autobahnen in Germany. Perhaps to save fuel, or they do not feel up to driving fast, or they have winter tires on.

I just wish people would be less eager to be regulated by government and more concerned with personal responsibility and discipline.

Do you also work with Diesels? If so, what can you do for a new Bluetec?

O yea, I`ve been there. I have one of the best autobaun cars, a bmw 850i. But our drivers here are not the brightest, and speed and stupidity does not mix. People just don`t understand speed here unless they are running from the law and weaving in and out of traffic. A couple of years ago I was speeding on the interstate in the left lane and had a car merging on from the on ramp, he then came all the way to the left lane for no reason, I about ran into him, that stoped me from speeding anymore.

Regards,
Lane
