Navigation Issues
Hey guys,
I took the car in yesterday for the 1,500 mile complimentary check-up. I told the SA about the following two nav issues
SA acted like I was stupid!!!![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
The car is still at the shop. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I took the car in yesterday for the 1,500 mile complimentary check-up. I told the SA about the following two nav issues
- Navigation routing issues in time/access restricted areas (i.e.: HOV lanes) using Navigation DVD 2007.1 MBUSA part # BQ6460229.
- Service Campaign Bulletin 2005060011 to correct nav directing to house range instead of house number
SA acted like I was stupid!!!

2008 C300 Sport & 2008 E320 Bluetec
Is there a correction for this, my Nav in my 2008 E320 Bluetec gives me house numbers from say 300-399 but not an exact house. Like if I was looking for house 321 it will only let me put in 300-399. When I had a Cadillac DTS the Navi let me put in exact house numbers.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies.
I picked up the car yesterday. They replaced the DVD and filled out / mailed the postcard to Navteq.
About the house number, 06Benz230, SA said he had talked to the MB Rep who happened to be there yesterday and this is how E-Class navigation systems work. Yeah, I know!!!!

Confusing
Can anyone tell me..because I'm not getting the picture entirely from this thread..is there a service bulletin or update to the navigation disc that allows exact house or address numbers to be entered and driven to? I have a 2008 E550.
Thanks for your replies.

Hey Airactivist,
There are two issues in this thread: one is the 2007.1 disc , which is having E-Class cars equipped with it (most MY 2008) refuse to drive on highways with HOV lanes. The second is the nagivation system only offering house ranges instead of house numbers.
On the HOV deal, MB is "downgrading" any customers with a 2007.1 disc (and having HOV lane problems) temporarily to a 2006.2 disc. When they change your disc, they'll have you complete a postcard that is being sent to Navteq (the company that supplies the discs) who will send you a new 2007 disc once the problem is resolved.
Regarding the house range, I had read an older thread on this forum that had information on a supposed service bulletin that fixed the house problem. The SB number is on the top in my first comment. As I mentioned above, the SA said that the SB is not good and that E-Class cars only give you house range and no house number.
Hopes this clarifies your confussion![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Unfortunately, it does Jose. Thanks.
My hopes were up for 1 day, however, when I read about
the “update” that would take you to the exact house.
I know NOTHING about how electronics work, but, someone
told me that the reason the MB Nav won’t do the EXACT
location is because MB gets its information from the disc
while others get their info from a satellite.(?)
MB uses a different “system,” or .. something like that. I’m
sure someone can explain it better.

Jimm, from my experience selling navigation systems, it seems to me that the problem is in the actual software. I believe that the system used on our cars is inferior in quality in order to save money. I started to think that the systems are now outdated because they were designed by the end of 01 or mid 02 when the cars were being finished for production. But I remember the Kenwood KNA-DV3100 came out around 03, so it was designed around the same time. The KNA system has about the same graphics, but the POI's, routing, etc is way way more adanced, you can even search by phone number. On the next model, the KNA-DV4100, the quatity of POI's is insane. The current model is powered by Garmin and the graphics and other functions are great, although you cannot search by phone # anymore, which was great to impress your guests but not good for much else.
The fact that you can only search by range leads me to believe that it is just a way to save money, and not have to enter as many locations on the software's database.
I certainly hope that MB get their act together and choose a good navigation system for their upcoming E class, and MB if you are listening, please PLEASE do not choose DENSO as your navigation partner.
Cheers and happy turkey day,
Edward

I like the japanese car's navigations I have seen, like Honda, Acura, Lexus. I dont much care for the Nissan ones, anything that is not touchscreen is outdated in my book. I do not have experience with BMW navs, I have not heard great things about it though.
I sell mostly Kenwood which has paired with Garmin, I really like the graphics and user interface. Alpine also makes a great product, I have not played with that too much, but what I have seen is nice. Clarion is not that great (the unit I played with kept on rebooting and was slow to respond to changes on routing), and I have no experience with Pioneer, although I read very good things about it.
Cheers

DTB for navigation routing issues is P-B82.85/602a released NOV07
Service Campaign 2005060011 released SEPT05 addresses the inability to enter house numbers when entering destination. It does not change route guidance to map a specific house number destination but rather continues to assign the number range destination. Furthermore, it only applies to MY03 through MY06 vehicles within specific VIN ranges.
FYI: The 211 MBUSA navigation system will allow you to enter a house number when keying in destination however, route guidance will only assign a number range destination. It is my understanding this has to do with the coded data on the Navteq DVD and not navigation system limitations.

You CAN key in the exact address you want when you are entering a destination, (Press the numbers on the touchpad that looks like a phone "dial") but the NAV unit will then give you a range of house numbers as a final destination.
The range of house numbers will always be sufficiently narrow to get you to within a position on the block in which it will be obvious where your final destination is if you look out the windows of the car, whereas if it had accepted the actual keyed in exact address the instructions would have told you to stop the car ("You have reached your destination") within a few car lengths of the front door.

IF you were able to enter a specific house number, it would mean someone from NAVTEC drove up in front of that house and entered the coordinates into the NAVTEC database.
The liklihood of this is zero.
Stop dreaming.

Addresses are mapped. Even if there is NO house yet built on the lot. Even if the wntire block is empty. The post office assigns addresses in advance of construction based on zoning. "The 2300 Block" of something means that all the addresses on that block will begin with the number 23. Even if "2300 Block" is not a terminology used by the locals, it IS used by the Post Office & Municipality, internally. ...so if there are 10 lots on a block, they know how many addresses to allow, evens on one side, odd on the other, addresses are planned by twos.
It is not necessary for Navteq to drive down the block with a pencil & paper.
All of the above assumes NEW streets in NEW neighborhoods. In established areas, addresses are already a part of a zillion databases. Thats cartography.
Most other NAV units will stop you almost in front of the house. The front door is usually within sight.
