I got the first 2008 E class that came to the West Palm Beach dealer
which was June 12, 2007. Just for comparason, maybe someone can
tell us when the FIRST 2006s arrived in dealerships. Then maybe we
can guess close to when - in 2009 - the 2010s will be out.

Head Rests: I swear, MY headrests won’t move! And One service rep
told me they don’t move .. but he did try it first. If I remember right
the manual says that they move.

The bars that hold them look like they are meant to rotate. So, am I
the only one with stationaries?

On my '04 I was able to reach my arms over my shoulders and pull the bottoms of the head rest forward, closer to the back of my neck/bottom of my skull. They do not have that free motion on my '07, probably because now they now will pop forward electronically in a crash.

Neither my car, the headrest does not tilt forward. I've tried to tilt it forward when I got my car, but it won't moved. So all the '07 & '08 model does not have this headrest tilt function and it's just stationary.

Jimm, the headrests in my car do move indeed. If you grab only the front part of the headrest you can move it forward and backwards.

I don't like that interior. The classy feeling of E-class interior is dead.

19 months to go!

I was at the dealer on Friday (Ray Catena) and they told me the 2010 will come out in 19 months. (Reliable sales guy)

Me neither. That's what made me move up to the E. I initially was looking at the C becasue I liked the exterior. I got inside and it looked "cheap". Looked very plastic (I know they are, but they don't have to look it-the MB Tex seats aren't so bad). Very low grade materials and I was looking at the top model. Sure it had some coll tech, but if I spend that much on a car I don't want a VW interior. This design looks very similar.

Sounds right, for the US market release. That would be about 3 months after the European release, wasn't it the same for the current model?

Yes it was. Euro release first followed by US release in 3 months. Pretty much standard procedure for MB.

sad`to hear that the next e will have direct shift I have a 07 e550 and a gl450 and I like the shifter in the e better If mb would engineer the "cha chig" noise out of direct shift I may like it better but for now the center gearshifter is my favorite

I don’t think MB will ever have that great plush interior
like Town Cars or Caddies. I wish they did. I’ve always
viewed the MB interiors as kind of “utilitarian.”

However .. I would “love” it if they do move the shifter
back to the steering column. When a car is not a “stick
shift” that’s where I think automatic shifters should be.
The other seems to always be “sticking up” in the way.

Ugh I hate steering column gear shifters. They feel sooo 70's.

I agree, I hate the direct select column shifters, I like it in the center.

I hate to say this, but sadly the US is partly to blame. They need room for massive cup holders to satisfy US consumers.

No offense jimm because I think you said you had a Cadillac in another thread somewhere...but Caddy interiors are not plush. Maybe you meant the seats? Seats are certainly more plush and cushy in American lux cars, but the rest is a big plastic mess. My dad has a 2005 Cadillac STS and the interior is attrocious. He always loves my interior and technically my C-Class really is a step down from an STS (if you look at the competitive segment).

That would correspond with when I got my 08 (June 12.)

So, we could assume that around June of 09 the 2010’s will be out.

I’ve had many Caddys and Town Cars. My ‘last’ Caddy was an ‘06 DTS.
It’s entire interior - all over - was more “plush” than my E-350. (There
are different interior packages available: I, II and III. I had the III and
there is a BIG difference between that and the I or II.)

The only other MBs I've owned was back in the 80’s; owned 3 including
a 560. Back then their interiors, and electronics, were behind the other
luxery cars, too. But, everyone said, even then too .. that “they handle
so good.”

And, I agree with that.
