Removing NAV module

The lease on my 2005 E320 is coming to an end. At my own expense, I added the NAV module (dvd) to this car. Are there any special skills required to remove the module from the car? I am not sure what all was installed, so I am not sure what to remove.

what do you mean by module? do you mean an aftermarket headunit or a factory one?

depends on who did the install also, might want someone professional taking that wood off for you.

Removing NAV module

The part I am talking about is the NAV dvd player located in the trunk of the car. The dealer installed the device after I leased the car. I am wondering what happens when I start unplugging the wires.

In the minimum you would have to take care that the fibre loop does not get disconnected, the fibre cables would need to be rerouted to form a completer ring (one leg could be removed). The fibre ring would need to be reinitialised and the instrument cluster version coding should be done to tell it no Navi is present.

Difficult to say it the replaced the trunk lining or if the lining with Navi door was present originally. I assume you don't want to start buying parts to make it original anyway.

Don't you have any option to get compensation from the Navi retrofit? Would be more value as it is in the car than it is when removed.

Suggestion - just installed DVD

This weekend in between nibbling on turkey , I install the DVD in my 2005 E320 CDI. You would have to do a reverse install. The MOST loop has to be done reversed otherwise the Comand Unit will not work. But you have to very careful not to crimp or destroy the fiber optic wires. My suggestion is to do a search on this site for “oem navigation” you will find a description of the installation with some photos by steph280. Read it and decided. This guided me with the install because the directions were left out of the refit I bought. They are now in the mail somewhere!!! If you want an original truck panel, very cheap $$. Let me know.

I have been researching installing nav in my 2004 E500. You can physically remove the nav module by removing the harness in the back - power, fiber optic, and antenna cables - and unbolt the module from the rack. Your dealer probably installed the nav module, rack, hardware, and a new trunk panel w/ access to the nav. Once the unit is out, you need to go the delaer so he can reprogram your car. This should only take about ten minutes, so the tech can probably restore any hardware in your trunk. It appears to be easy and straight forward. If you plan on selling the nav module, please let me know. Good luck.

I don't quite understand why you want to remove the NAV unit and go though the hassle of re-configuring MOST ring and getting COMAND version coded by the dealer. The NAV unit itself isn't worth much and I don't think that you'd be able to get more than $400 for it.

Just my 2 cents...
