first checkup

hi..
my car is due for the first 1K-3K mile check-up. I dont have any problems with the car yet. Is there anything that i should ask them or make sure that they do?
Any suggestion would be of great help!
Happy holidays to all!!

This "Check Up" is more of a PR thing, to make people feel like they are getting something service related for free, and to insure that the car is really trouble free and you are happy. (maybe they just want to hear it 1st hand) The '07's on seem to be amazingly well made cars.

^^^ Agree, it is more a "PR" thing. I've just brought my car in for the same thing. First, they asked me if there were some issues on the car and of course I've said there were no issue to be reported. Then the SA told me it will take 30 to 45 mins. to go through First 1K/3K miles checklist and I can wait in the lobby until it's done. But to be honest with you, I think all they did, they was just washed my car. LOL

I don't remember how long it is since we had a similar 1500 km check-up in Europe. My FSS plans the first check (service) now for 30 000 km milestone (18750 miles).

Have them place "caps" over the bolt-heads for the wiper arms. As you're getting into the car, if you look down, under the hood - where it meets the bottom of the windshield - you'll probably see the rather large bolt heads. Very cheesy looking. Was gratis for me.

Get the car to face the sun in the am. Carefully inspect the glazing. If you can see what appears to be damage caused by a "sandstorm," get the svc mgr to inspect it too. The glazing will have been defective. Mine got to the point that I couldn't drive the car because the sun totally "lit up" the windshield. Apparently, there was a defect in the lamination/process. Another item covered by warranty, obviously.

One question though...did you have to bend your front plate to get it to match the pointy front bumper?

Definetly a PR thing, as a matter of fact my salesman advised me NOT to go for this unless there was something wrong with the car. You should get a free tire rotation before 6500 miles so I would wait till then and have them check things out when you bring it in for the rotation and then back again at 13000 for the A service. That's MY plan. Good Luck

I did bend the front plate on mine. I wish they didn't install the front license bracket so I will leave the front license plate off (I know it's against the law in California). When I tried to take license bracket off, it has left four screw holes on the front bumper and it looks tacky. So I put the bracket and front license back on.

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I test drove a car at the Wilsonville dealership last weekend. Is this the dealer who took care of your license plate?

Having moved from Arizona (no front plates) to Oregon, I hate the idea of fouling the beautiful lines of the front end with a plate.

No I got my car from the downtown Portland dealership. But since they are the same (Rasmussen), I think Wilsonville can do the same. Best! welcome to the forum and to the NW

Take it in for the first service. They do a lot more than "wash" your car. The key to any car, especially a Mercedes is preventative maintenance. Things like resetting tire pressure to specs, maybe even installing nitro fill if you haven't already done so. Check for leaks and check codes via the sds. This can be done in 30 to 45 min depending on the dealer AND you get a free wash!!

Well, they didn't reset the tire pressure on mine for sure because the weekend after, my tire pressure sensor warning light came on the instrumental panel.

Wow .. maybe they did a lot more on mine. I got a 2007 C230 as a loaner and they kept my car for 24 hours. They gave me a checklist of all the items they checked and thats it.

3,000 mi check

I have 2300 mi. on my E-550 and the SA told me that in addition to the check list they use they will put the car on the computer to make sure everything is normal. I asked what happens if I bring it in after 3,000 and he said that unless I was having a problem they wouldn't hook up the computer as MB compensates them for the check if done prior to 3,000. I agree that anything preventive that is offered by MB should probably be taken advantage of.

The tire pressure warning is supposed to come on if you have a problem....did you have a problem? nail in tire or anything?

Nope, no nail. Somehow it detected that one of the tire didn't have enough tire pressure so I grab my tire gauge and found one of the tire have only 23 psi pressure on it. After I went to a gas station put some air on it, I didn't have a problem since. So what I was saying, if checking of the tire pressure was one of the checklist they done during my car 1K mi. check up, then they didn't even care re-pressurize my tire.

3,000 mi check and tire pressure

In my case I hate it when the dealer or tire store checks my tire pressures. I garage my cars at 8,700 ft. and the dealer is 100 mi away and 3,500 ft. lower so by the time they check the pressure it's quite a bit different. I know what I want my pressure to be based on where I will be driving according to temps and altitude but no one else could really know that. I always have to recheck my pressures the day after I visit the dealer or tire store. Besides they are often not accurate themselves in what they put in your tires.
