Rain sensing wiper??
Do you guys know how to set the rain sensing wiper? it is set to default by MB or we have to set it? If you guys live in LA, it was raining on the past few days, but my rain sensor didnt work. I tried to find it in the manual, and.......No Luck.
thanks
Rain sensing (automatic feature) is position 1
2003 E 320 Pan.Roof, Xenon, Rear shade, Multi contour, Karm H. stereo, Parktronic , Ventilated seats
1. turn on engine.
2. turn wiper switch to position #1.
3. squirt water on sensor which is located behind rear-view mirror. The more water you squirt, the faster it wipes.
If the rain sensor is defective, the wiper defaults to intermittent mode: One swipe every five seconds.

Lot's of these rain sensing wipers are defective, according to my service rep (including mine), and need to be replaced. That could be it, too, unfortunately.

:o Thanks psyrtash, how can you figure that out?
is that in the manual?cos i tried to find it in the manual
Drawbacks: It will cause a momentary flash of glare as you pass under a street light, and all the water beads reflect the light. This does not bother me. It needs replenishment after about 30 days. Some people dislike it, but I would not be without it.
I went to the Summit Point accident avoidance course many years ago, and afterward we were asking the instructors what we could do to make ourselves better and safer drivers: Rain-X and ABS were his only answers. I gave Rain-X (and ABS) a try and have been a believer.
I live right on the oceanfront, and it also prevents water spotting and residue that would invariably build up on side and rear windows. Since Rain-X, no problems.
They seem improved over my 2001 ML but they do seem to get stuck, at least for a while going way too fast. They may start off slow but then once they speed up, there seems to be a very long lag before they eventually slow down sufficiently as the rain lets us and this results in a lot of dry, noisy wipes. My solution to this is to quickly turn the wipers to 'off' and then back to the rain sensing position. When it restarts it seems to go at the appropriate slower speed. Kind of annoying as the system should do this automatically. I did get caught in a heavy downpour yesterday and the wipers sped up appropriately.
Questions: Does anybody think the situation I described above is a fault that might be correctable? Also, as each of us has a different sense of how fast we think the wipers should go in different conditions, I would hope there is some way to adjust the sensitivity or response of the system. Do any of you tech experts know if this type of adjustment is possible?
I had the exact same wiper behavior before my wipers went totally berzerk. I don't know if the problem you describe - and by the way I adopted the same "fix" as you did - is normal or a harbinger of the system breaking down.

MB< are you listening? Is there a software fix yet?
