Am I just not seeing it or does the E500 not have a digital compass?

Unfortunately, I think you are right. I was kind of surprised myself.

I think a compass is a helpful gimmick. If one's driving in one's city then compass directions are mostly known and the compass is not as useful. For a new city at daytime if its really necessary to know the compass direction, on a sunny day, one can look at the sun's directions in the sky and get an idea.

The Cadillacs I have owned in the past all had an electronic compass built in their rear view mirrors. It is a great feature that I miss. Slowly but surely MB is adding options offered by other companies. One example which is new this year ( and way overdue) are the automatic headlamps.

I sure hope my E500 doesn't sit still long enough for moss to grow on any side (north or south) of it. I would rather have a compass.

Even my old Durango had a compass as standard equipment.

Totally agree - I had an electronic compass in my Cadillac STS many years ago and it was very useful - even though I'm sure the cost in a car company adding one is very low...

Does Mercedes have a user group or nay other way to provide them feedback?

I have a compass even in my LHS. Mirror with compas costs around $150, but MB's isn't replacable. I do not think that $50 options realy makes any sense (although for over 100000 in production cars it's some money too), so MB didn't include a compass to be differ from Cadillac, Chrysler, Lexus, Audi and any other make. I think.

I have a compass on my COMAND when I select MAP.

...also have a compass at the end of the zipper on my RL outdoors vest...and the moss grows on the northside of trees...and the sun is a compass...the moon is NOT reliable...
