Ticking/tapping sound from the trunk area while stopped.
Hi All,
My parents have a new '07 E350, and during my last visit, they told me of a problem they are having with their car.
It seems, starting the car and driving for a bit, the rear trunk area will make some sort of ticking/tapping sound when stopped at a stop light. The noise does not always come on, and is somewhat intermittent. The sound comes in increments of every 2-seconds or so. They demonstrated this sound to me, and it was pretty obvious when the radio is turned off.
My dad took the car to the dealer, and they told him that sound was normal, and is coming from the CA evap system. He is not convinced. It is also kinda hard for me to swallow that as an explanation.
He just wants to know if this is normal or not. So, anyone out here in CA experiencing the same problem?
Thanks in Advance!

There is a bulletin out for the right now. If their technicians were smart they would of checked bulletins before releasing th vehicle. They remove the activated charcol canister tube, and install a metal sleeve on the inside of the line and clamp it down, then reinstall the line. Take it back, tell them its not a normal noise and you want it fixed. In fact, if you want, when I go into work tomorrow, I will even give you the bulletin number, so you can take that to them, and request to have that performed.

Curious to see if this bulletin. Light popping noise from rear right when at full stop. I've had this problem for 4 years and counting. Stopped asking for it to be checked after the first 2 and have learned to live with it.

In hindsight I meant to type 'thumping' noise. It's been a while, but ticking is not the correct word to use.
Thanks everyone!

I have the same noise. I thought it was something I was carrying in the trunk shifting but I cleared the trunk and it happens when the car is stopped. Did we ever get a bulletin number? I'm getting ready for the 1,000 to 3,000 mile checkup and want them to address some things.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Just got my car back from service for something unrelated but asked them to check into this (again) based on my hearing there may be a TSB out on this. Dealer checked with shop foreman and claim there is no TSB on this and that the noise we are hearing is normal (pump, compressor, or something like that...). They also warned me that the TSB referred to may be related to something else. SLR199 - please provide the TSB number. thanks
