E500 NAV Command! I'm confused.

I've talked to 2 different dealer who have given me 2 different answer on the Command Navigation option.

1st dealer said that in order to take advantage of the price you need to order the car with the option.

2nd dealer told me that if I take an E500 off the lot they can add the Navigation later on when it is finally available for that $1600+ price.

I was under the impression that the car had to be spec'd out at the order process to have the NAV otherwise you will have to pay full (after delivery accessory) price for it.

Which one is true? That's basically the only reason I'm holding off in buying one off the lot, if the 2nd scenario is actually true then I might be able to ask for discounts on cars that are already on the lot versus NO discounts at all for an ordered car.

Thanks,
Jeff

Well your dealer might do something like what my dealer did. My dealer initially said that I could get the nav system for $1625. However, he didn't ask me to pay up front for it b/c he didn't know that he had to do that. So at time of delivery, he took an extra $500 off the price of the car and if I chose to get the nav later I would pay regular price.

You may not have seen the letter from Mercedes Benz USA to dealers on thsi subject, posed on Autospies in late August

I am not sure if dealers are allowed to apply the discount to cars not ordered from the factory with NAV. ( In other words, can NAV be treated as a dealer installed option ?).

they have to discount the cars that want the nav, if not, tell them about it, or call mb personally from thier phone....

After giving it some thought... if the dealer tells me that I can take a car from the lot and get the NAV for only $1625 when it becomes available in March (and get this in writing of course) I'll go for it, if when March comes and they find out that I can't do that then I'll hold them to the contract that I signed (either they'll force MBUSA to pay for it or they'll pay for the installation themselves).

What do you guys think?

Jeff

Don't worry yourself guy...just like Bmms8 said, any car can have the Nav option added later. You do not have to order your car with Nav to get the $500 off. You do however have to have them put it into the lease/purchase contract when you take delivery of the car.
