I believe it was in one of the sept or oct issues. The very rational argumen they made is that 1) they already have a 350 engine in the ML trucks, and 2) the 320 is underpowered as compared to other vehicles in this class in the market. Keep in mind that it costs Mercedes major dollars to manufacture two engines instead of one (efficiency).
Autospies actually thought the new engine might be introduced before the 04 model year - I would be shocked if it does not happen at least by 04 launch. I cancelled my order for a e320 and went to the 500 as a result of this news. None of the dealers I was talking to denied it either, by the way.
