I whacked a deer, now what?
I don't wanna repost so read about it here:
https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/227425-son-b-tch-i-hit-deer-tonight.html
Since I'm getting the bumper replaced, I'm considering an E55 or E63 front end and I'm having a hard time deciding which way to go. If I go E55, I won't need to buy new bumper inserts, headlamp washer cover, etc... and It'll be a little cheaper.
If I go E63, I'll have to buy a new grill, bumper inserts, fog lights, corner lights, etc and it will be a bit more $$$
Then I have to worry about resale. I think that I would have an easier time selling with a correct model year E55 front bumper than a non-correct model year E63 setup.
Opinions?

if your concerned about selling then i would go with OEM parts for your model, if not get the one you like best

I think I'm gonna go with the E55 nose or back to stock E500. The body shop is working me up a price as we speak.

Out Of Control!!
I think you said you were getting rid of it? I would just do stock, if you plan on keeping it... E55, and if you are so in love with that E500 and never want to get rid of it... E63 front end

Re: Bumper Replacement
My condolences on the damage, d$%^ those pesky deer.
If it were mine, I would replace with the stock E500 parts; however in your case, doing the E55 front to match the rear upgrades of your car might make sense too. Unless you love the 07 up look, I would not do the extra expense of the E63 stuff.
Good luck with getting it repaired.

But, if recent history is any indicator, I won't have this one for much longer. In the past 6 years, I've had 7 cars. And haven't had any one of them for more than a year. Except this E500. I've grown attached to her and I'm really trying not to sell her. But I may fall victim to the AMG virus.

Funny you should say that since I am feeling the virus too. Looking at the AMG forums I see speed discussions of 150mph plus etc. I think it sounds exciting but there are very few roads in NJ where these speeds can be sustained for more than a couple of seconds. I am be interested in a second Benz; a used one this time, an AMG...

Sorry to hear that. Why don't you get a slightly used E55! More potential with mods with the SC. Did you get rid of your R500?

I think if you have any possibility of selling the car just get it replaced with the original bumper. Typically when people see different bumpers they think you wrecked the front end regardless of what really may have happened.
Then agian if you got E55 front and then AMG sport appearance rear bumper and the dual single tip mufflers you finish the factory option look
Go all the way!

I'm also thinking about an SL. That car is completely useless for a family of 4 but they look so damn sexy.
I dunno. Maybe I should sell all 3 mercs and just buy everyone a Chevy Cobalt.

Sounds like there is a good chance of the car being sold relatively soon. In that case, I'd go stock.
If it is a keeper, I'd do E55 and put the "savings" towards a true E55 rear or even an E55 side skirts to complete the look.

Love that car. Damn you, man. You know I can't have you driving that and me in some Frankenstein E500/55 creation.
That's it. I'm getting a TT600 AMG now. GAME ON!

Haha..Thanks man! I actually had a '04 SL600TT (AMG is the SL65) for a couple of days this past summer and that's a sweet ride. The convertible hardtop was fantastic and a work of art opening and closing. I had my friend who was a mechanic look over it the next day and he found the car was in an accident as he found left over masking tape underneath the car. Funny thing was Carfax showed a clean record. I returned it and the dealer didn't even question it. I would get at least a '05+ because the '03-'04 had the 1st gen nav which is terrible.
Jeff...how are you going to top an SL600?

Hey Jeff. Thanks! It's freezing here in Chi-Town. The S5 was just too long of a wait so I pulled my order and picked up a XKR. Plus the more I waited the more I got bord of the S5 (still a great car though). The XKR came in from Baltimore last Tuesday and only drove it twice cuz of the snow, salt and freezing cold here. Here's a pic when I picked it up last week:
