Cross Drilled Rotors

Im looking to purchase front and rear crossed drilled rotors and keep my stock calipers. A couple of questions for you guys.

1) will E55 rotors work with my E500 calipers?
2) anyone know any aftermarket companies that are some what reasonable
and not $2,000 like the brembos.
3) How are the rotors on ebay? I see some really cheap ones on there.

No The W211 AMG Brake Rotors will NOT Fit the NON AMG Brake calipers

One can treat the New UNUSED brake rotor via Cryo dip to help with wear/cracking of cross drilled brake rotors

Do your home work re the CHEAP EBAY Rotors...

Please just stick with the OEM rotors and save yourself a lot of headache. I put the vented/slotted/drilled iRotors on my car (from ebay) and they were warped within 5K miles. I then put aftermarket solid rotors and those too warped super quick and the hub starting discoloring after the first rain. I've since gone back to OEM rotors, purchased from a dealership and they're fantastic. Are you just doing it for aesthetic reasons or are you planning on tracking the car? If it's just for looks, you're gonna have problems.

See my thread on this:

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...hlight=irotors

Of course it's your car and you're gonna do what you want, but if you're asking opinions, I will never put aftermarket rotors on any of my MBs ever again.

sorry to hear about your bad experience, that sucks. I read some members here have installed aftermarket rotors and I never heard a situation like that. Im mainly doing if for looks and get a little faster stopping power, I used to have a set of cross drilled rotors on my acura and those things were great so I figured I would try them on the benz.

Good luck, man. Hope it works for you. The entire braking system found the W211's is one one the best in the world as is.

cross drilled rotors wont give you better stopping power, you have to upgrade the calipers to accomplish that. They cool the rotor faster thus reducing brake fade, which only happens if your tracking the car. On the street its strickly for show. I agree MB brakes or some of the best around....

I replaced my factory rotors and pads with ones from Porterfield Brakes. They were German Zimmerman cross drilled rotors. I have had no problems with them, especially no more squeeking and reduced brake dust.

Re: Rotors

You might also want to consider the 07 OEM E550 Sport rotors. They are drilled, don't rust and also look pretty o.k. They are not outrageously expensive, will fit your car perfectly, and give you MB reliability to boot.

Check out www.rotorpros.com. Just ordered a set of cross drilled sloted rotors with pads for my F350. Little bit of a different catagory, need them for heavy towing.

Can anyone confirm that the E550 and the E500 do indeed share the same diameter rotors, therefore making them interchangeable?

RE: Rotor Interchangability

The rotors and calipers on the 05 E500 and the 07 E550 are the same. The 07 sport package front rotors are drilled whereas the earlier years and "non sport" 07 versions are not drilled. You can always have your MB parts guy verify if in doubt.

Regarding the other post about "Rotorpros", I would tread cautiously. This company (like many on Ebay) takes cheap OEM replacement spec non drilled/slotted rotors and proceeds to drill/slot them in a manner they were never engineered for. I once purchased a set for a C5 Corvette from this outfit; when I received tham I found so many visual flaws/issues that I never even installed them, just sent them right back for a refund. They were relatively inexpensive, but I quickly realized that you get what you (don't) pay for.

Unless you track your car, I would stick with MB parts for brakes, they will more than get the job done.

SOrry for being late . The cost was a little under 500.00 for parts & wheel works put them on for an extra hundred when they changed my tires. I brought them the sensors.

I have recently heard of fitting sl65 rotors on the w211 which would bring the diameter up to a 380mm. (19" wheel minimum) Can a larger size rotor be changed without changing any of the other components?

YOU will NEED THE AMG Brake calipers for the SL 65 rotors to clear and work
The SL65 uses a multipiece front rotor unlike the 55 that uses a one piece HEAVY front brake rotor

Price the SL 65 Rotors BEFORE you think of doing them...

The 07 calipers look different than the 03-06 ones (07s have two large bolts as the 03-06s have 4 small bolts). Question, does anyone know the difference between these two, you can visually see the difference, but I mean in stopping power, # of pistons? I've been thinking about changing mine.
