Why No 4Matic CDI ?

I thought I once read that the new diesel V8 was supposed to allow the creation of a 4Matic variant. I have seen nothing about this since. Does anybody know why such a product isn'd available? Is the torque of the diesel too much for the drive mechanism?

Excuse me ...

I meant to refer to the V6 diesel engine not the V8 which is not available here.

The 4Matic hardware does fit with the new V6, but I'm not sure about the V8. I don't recall seeing a E420 CDI 4Matic on any other sites, but there may be such a car. We don't get a diesel 4Matic because MBUSA doesn't think the demand is there. 4Matic however won't fit with the E320 Bluetec for 2009 anyway because of the extra tanks needed for the Adblue solution.

There is no the 420CDI is only available with 4-matic except in the ML and GL (and possibly R, but no "cars"). The Bluetec E cannot accomodate 4-matic, but the non-bluetec 320CDI can.

It's really up to what MBUSA thinks will sell.

It's VERY expensive to EPA-certify a drivetrain combination, and MBUSA clearly thinks it isn't worth it.

Salesmen all think it's exhaust system complications, but I don't buy that--Germany will go Bluetec shortly and I'd be VERY surprised if this eliminates 4Matic there.

Keep in mind that the 212 has been designed with all these things in mind, as well, so that inherent in that design is space for Adblue tank, 7G, and 4-Matic.
