Changing address in navi while driving

Isn't it against the law to be able to change the address while driving w/o having to put your car in park mode? I know for my friend's lexus and bmw, they have to park the car, then cancel destination in order to put in a new address. But in my E 350, I can change destinations while driving. Is this an exclusive Mercedes function?

No, it is not against the law. Tecnically, the passenger can enter a destination while in motion.

No the Lexus navigation just sucks when in motion. It defeats the purpose of having a Navigation system.

Must be the US liability issues that made MB disable this from US cars. In Europe the address can be set while in motion. Most likely US cars could be coded with SDS too to allow this.

Was voice control not covering address entry in a W211, on later models that would be the best option to set the address while driving.

It is not disabled in my car. It depends on the version of the nav SW you have. Go to your dealer and ask for the latest.

Used to be you could enter and change addresses while in motion, but with the latest NAV update, you now have to be under something like 10mph (maybe even 5)...strange because this is how it is in my E, but with the latest update in my GL, i can still enter/change while going down the highway. I know, different COMAND mfgrs, but still, you'd think MB would be somewhat consistent with software updates.

I find it VERY irritating that a passenger can't even enter a destination, and that Voice control in the E doesn't allow NAV controlling...oh well, this will all be addressed with the 212

I've done it before few times too much destraction but if I'm driving I'd pull over and enter the information unless I have someone with me that can enter it for me.

Not quite like that, the address can be changed with the Lexus voice commands while driving.

From my experience its highly inaccurate unlike the MB Nav though. I still miss my Acura NAV in the TL. That was the best NAV hands down.

I thought GM was the only company that did this

The ability for a passenger to enter the destination while in motion is a life saver. I have done it several times. It keeps the drivers mind and eyes on the road.

I do agree that the Honda/Acura navi is the best I've ever used.

Ehh the BMW nav in my 750li was nothing great either. If anything, the NAV in my CL63 and both S550/S600 is much nicer than the BMW or W211 NAV. Its actually intuitive versus the crap of a NAV in the W211. I can't believe they actually let this junk make it to production.

Response to MB fanatic: You are completely right, the w211 navi sucks- it disgusts me at times how much crap i need to go through to get directions. But i love how i can do it while my car isnt stopped. All of my friends cars need to be stopped in order to use their navi. I hate that ****

Is this really true? I have the Nav map update but have not gotten around to the required software update. It would really suck to have to choose between updated maps and loss of input while driving.

Don't have access to the info right now but it must be possible to enable address input while moving with SDS. If you had this before the update, your dealer should make it the same after the update. Perhaps better to let the dealer take care of the update and explain that this setting needs to remain the same.
