Extended Warranty?

Anyone have any advice on which of the many extended warranty companies other than Starmark is the best for Mercedes repair?
Thanks

I went with Warranty Direct. It came highly recommended here...

I am sure other will not agree with me, but I would recommend the MB extended warranty. My service manager - who is also a friend - told me that only the MB warranty covers MB parts. All other companies have the option of getting non-MB parts for warranty work.

My E class went in for service about 2 weeks after the extended warranty started for the sunroof motor, and it was covered no questions asked.

BTW - the price of the MB warranty is not set. You can negotiate a better price through your dealer. I would even try another dealer. it worked for me.

Especially if you buy a pre-owned its a must. I'd go with MB warranty or any other 3rd party warranty.

The trick accurately predict how long you are going to keep the car in total. With the MB Extended Warranty, even though in many states, you can get a prorated refund on the "unused portion" of the warranty you will turn in at the back end, beware that when they SELL the Warranty to you, it is promoted as a 7/ 100,000 warranty even though it really is only for an additional 3 years beyond the included Factory Warranty... That is, you are only buying 3 years of coverage. When you go to turn in, lets say, the last year of the warranty because you traded the car in, they prorate about 1/7 of what you paid, back to you, not 1/3 of what you paid for the additional 3 years. The original & Extended warranties run concurrently, even though you are being charged for 7 years, all repairs for the 1st 4 years are already covered by the Factory Warranty.

Don't overbuy the number of years. Are you REALLY going to be driving around in a 6 year old E/W211, when the new model is going to instantly make these cars look old?

I would! I always go for the car not the year. If the new style of the E's is not as nice as the current W211 or they're too freakin expensive, I'd stick with what I have...Just my opinion...

+1 MB warranty is the way to go. You never have to worry about which dealer services the car (if you are travelling, etc). Everything is covered, no questiones asked, and every dealer knows how to work with it.

I have a two year extended MB warranty on my 2003 E50 which I added when I bought my certified auto in Sept 2005. It expires in Jan 2009. Do you know whether I have the option of buying another extended warranty from MB when this one expires and whether it would be a reasonable cost compared to the others available in the marketplace?

.
True, also many of the other warranties have a limit on the cost of repair, so read the fine print

We bought a certified car and the "startrek" warranty. However I have had warranty direct on other cars with no issues. I did find that some dealers will not accept aftermarket warranty. The Lincoln dealer would only accept Ford/Lincoln warranty and no others. So I would reco. the MB "startrek" warranty and if not warranty direct. But DO GET THE WARRANTY

Warranty Direct I've read is the great alternative warranty company as compared to MB but unfortunately, they're still not covering CA at this time...

I have the MB extended on mine but I don't think it's a bumper to bumper coverage. As I recall, the stereo and its electronics are not covered.

MB Warranty does not offer full coverage

I would consider the MB warranty if not for the fact that it does not cover some of the electronics in the car. What were they thinking?!?! One of the biggest reasons I would buy an extended warranty is to make sure the electronics are covered (audio, navigation, etc.,). I'd read the fine print carefully and stay away from any warranties that do not cover the electronics of the car. MB should be ashamed to offer a warranty that does not extend the coverage of the original warranty. Third party warranties include coverage of the electronics and my Volvo's extended warranty covers everything.

I am glad that I purchased the MB extended warranty when I purchased the 03 E320 new. The original warranty expired last year and last week I took the car in for what appeared to be a leak in the power steering hose. The real problem was the AC compressor leaking its lubricant at the shaft seal. The dealer also noticed the rear main engine seal weeping some oil. They dropped the transmission to replace the rear seal with an upgraded seal. They have to lift the engine to replace the compressor and in that process, one of the engine mount bolts was siezed and that mount had to be replaced. They also heard the whine that I had complained about and replaced the belt tensioner pulley. After reading the bill, I realized that the 2 1/2 days they had the car was more than justified. The total bill was $0 with the MB extended warranty.

I bought an 08 E550 in Sept 2007. IIRC the extended warranty from MB did cover the electronics.
