There are 2 tabs, located toward the front of the center grill. Look between the 2nd or 3rd horizontal divider and you should see them. Use a small flathead screwdriver to press down on the tabs and then slide the grill towards you and lift up. Took me awhile to realize those tabs were there.

the link has pics and info and if ya got any questions just ask.

the first pic is of the speaker(duh) and i was going to replace it with an aftermarket speaker but i had it tested and it is a 1.5 ohm and its very shallow so no aftermaket speaker will wire up or fix so i guess we are stuck with the stock replacement.
the second pic is of the grill removed and it shows the tabs the need to be pressed down to remove the grill.the easyest way is with a real skinny flat screwdriver or some this simular and push one tab down and pull the grill up on that side and hold it the press the tab on the other side and it should pop up and toward you.
the third pic shows the grill removed and the speaker hole is at the top.
the red circles show where the tabs are.
hope this helps you guys because i looked on most of the benz forums and could not find and pics or info on how to remove the grill or any info on the speaker.
have any questions just ask. i will also post a link to this in the general section as well as the 211 e class section. oh and i forgot that the speaker is $130 at the dealer
thank so much.I do know now.

Does this also apply to the 2007 models onwards as that piece has changed in design?

Carefully unclip and lift cover in increments starting on left & right sides closest to windshield.

2007 W211: Does it still have the same tabs/clips as earlier years or did you mean something else when you say 'unclip'?

Can anyone verify that the part number changed from A1698201802 (the speaker that came out of my car) to A2118203002 (the speaker that was sent to me when I ordered a replacement. Thanks in advance.

2118203002 = standard system
1698201802 = Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 (code 810)
2198270960 = h/k + AMG sound (E02) not applicable to your vehicle

1802 actually replaces 3002 and is current/correct part # for your vehicle.

Thank you very much. The only reason I asked, aside from the part numbers being very different, is that the speakers look nothing alike. They are the same size, but construction/materials was very different and the 3002 speaker has a capacitor soldered to it, where as the logic 7 speaker I removed from my dash, did not.

Hi Konigstiger,

Do I use the part number 1698201802 for 07 E550 with Logic7? Tried searching and most OEM online parts store says they can't verify if it will fit my model year.

Hello, will this also work for an 05 E320. If so, where do I look for the tabs in the air vents?

I have a 08 E350 and had the problem with the speaker rattle that Eliris discussed.
Removing the grill is somewhat stressful so I thought I would contribute on what I found. On my model the grill is held in with 4 clips shown in the photo. Using plastic wedges that I made from some material I found in my garage I inserted them into the positions pointed out in the PDF referenced in one of the earlier posts. I then used a bent pick inserted in the new opening to lift up on the grill in the forward area. I removed and glued the speaker cone repairing the problem.

I found an easy way to remove the center speaker grill with little stress. I inserted an old ID card into the front corner of speaker grill (nearest to windshield). Once the ID card is inserted as much as possible, I pushed the ID card towards the windshield. This lifted the grill enough for me to grab it by hand and pull it up. This was possible because the ID card, once inserted, was bent around the corner and became rigid enough to lift the grill.

I find this method to be much better than what the factory repair manual suggested. Try it out.

I glued my center speaker by using this glue:

http://www.parts-express.com/black-r...ottle--340-078

I bought both white and black versions from Parts Express, but I only used the black glue because I think it's stronger based on what I have read. I glued the bottom of the cone to the basket first, then I glued the surround to the cone and to the top of the basket. The black glue is not pretty but it worked really well. The bottle says cure time is 10 mins. I waited 30 mins before I put the speaker back in the car.

I didn't re-glue the center dust cap because it was still on the cone pretty tight. I can always re-glue the dust cap without touching the surround, if that becomes necessary in the future.

just took out mine with a butter knife. very, very simple: stick it in around 2 o'clock (noon being straight towards the hood ornament) pry it up a little bit, it comes up. move it forward a little more. do it again, it comes up. put your fingers under at 12 and lift up. it comes out nicely.

I have an 2004 E55. I recently tried to put back the center vent panel. However, I cannot snap the panel back in. maybe I am not pushing hard enough? Do I have to use the flat screwdriver to push down on the two tabs again to snap the panel back in place? Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

Has anyone successfully replaced the speaker with an aftermarket one? $100 for a 3.5" speaker is crazy.
