I had hoped to take this to the grave with me...but in case it might help you.

I had thought my washer pump was bust to. I got my car Oct 2007, so the weather was nice for the first month. I recalled spraying the windscreen when I was test driving it. But when I went to use it for real some weeks later, no wash fluid.

I could wax lyrical some more, but to cut a long story short...I wasn't pushing the button in far enough.

On my 2004 the washer is a push in tip, on the wipers stalk. It will go in some without the washer coming on. If I can describe it this way, there is a soft click (cluck?) when the washer pump engages.

I *almost* booked my car into my Indy for this. But was sooooo glad I didn't. I could never have gone back there again!

Good luck to you!

just a quick suggestion: Open the hood, and make sure the washer hose has not broken or full with gunk. Thes hose should lead from the reservoir to the hood. (U'd probably have WW fluid in the engine bay if that were the case).
Also try using a toothpick or pin to clear the holes in the washer nozzles.

Did you ever find the solution to this problem as I am experiencing the same problem. Extreme cold temperatures, tried to use the windshield washer, no fluid spraying nor do i hear the pump going from inside the car. Swore I used it a few days earlier.....

I just replaced the pump on my CLK, its a cheap part and relatively easy fix. I think its in the same location with my E but on the CLK its on the front left (RHD) wheel well. Took me longer to remove the tire than to replace the pump.
