Lightbulb E350 in service for 30+ days at Penske Mercedes West Covina

My 2006 E350, with about 22,000 miles on the ODO, went into service when a check engine light went on.

The car has been in service since Feb. 16th, which is one month ago today. Was place in a rental through their Enterprise cars and has been in one ever since.

Initially, my service adviser diagnosed an issue with the engine controller unit; Which had to be specially programmed and ordered from Germany. This was a rather extenuated three week process. The module arrived last week and during he final phases of testing, the check engine light went back on.

As of today, my service adviser cannot provide a definite answer of when my car would be ready or what specifically is the issue with the car.

Where can I go from here?

Thanks for reading,

- A very frustrated MB owner.

Don't know the specifics about the lemon law or if you're inside or outside the time limit since purchase, or if the car has been in the shop too long.

Either way, I'd contact a lemon law attorney and get them to buy you a new car. 30 days w/o your car and no fix in sight?? Who is MB kidding?

While 30 days is a long time, from what you explained doesn't sound like the dealer is jerking you around. You didnt mention if this was the first time for this problem. They placed you in a loaner and have been updating you on the progress, not sure how much more they can do? i'd say be a little more paitent and talk with someone at the Regional level, i'm sure they will compesate you for the time without your vehicle (free accessories or services, etc.)

That would be my last channel, hoping I won't resort to that.

My next step is to do just that. But, how do I get in contact with a regional rep?

Ironically, shortly after posting, my adviser called and says it might be an issue with the alternator? Will have more details tomorrow and I'll keep everyone posted.

Just in case you're wondering, my E350 has about 22k, all stock and is solely driven by my mother. Adding salt to the wound, into the first week of my service, my first loaner (C230) broke down on the road. The infamous Penske flat bed came to pick me up and I was put into another loaner, a 2008 Toyota 4Runner Been rather acquainted to this Toyota box, but in terms of creature comfort, my E350 is worlds apart. <tears>.

RE: Extended Service Time

I would call MBUSA customer service, have them open a "file", and get them involved to assist the dealer in getting your car repaired. I would also ask them to give you a replacement car if the dealer cannot fix it within a reasonable period of time. You might also request an MB service loaner vehicle vs. the Enterprise rental to put a little pressure on the dealer.

I would NOT take it to another dealer without first involving MBUSA.

Mine was in the shop for 13 days in January. I called MBUSA when the part I needed was "on backorder" without a committed delivery date. I have no doubt that the reason I got my car back that quickly was because I made it very clear to MBUSA how I felt about the situation and I was prepared to do something about it if my car was not repaired within a reasonable period of time.

I can completely relate to how you feel. Good luck and keep us posted on the outcome.

Over a month, that's a long time. Take it to another dealer or take action by calling the customer service of MB. Hope everything works out.

Call the 800 MB customer service center, and ask for the name and contact info for the regional rep for your area. And (kindly) explain to the person that this obviously is a serious issue since the vehicle has been in the shop for over 30 days, therefore it requires the attention of someone at his level, and that you expect his full support on this issue until your vehicle is repaired to your satifaction....Good luck they are usually resonable people as long as you approach them the right way....

I'd take this opp to contact a lemon law attorney and just get yourself a new car on their dime. I'm not overreacting .. its a Benz for crying out loud. Just like you gotta pay to play, SO DO THEY.

Lemon Law it.

I think it quilfiesafter they have had 4 tries to fix to problem or the car was in the shop for more than 30 days for the same problem.

Sometimes you we have more luck getting MB to take it back. They will probably make you get another Mercedes.
