I'm most likely going to get a Tesla Model S. Nothing offered by Mercedes, including the s class, comes close to what I experienced during the Model S test drive.
I really dislike the interior of the current generation E class. It is too angular and not at all elegant in my opinion. The interior of the current E is better suited for a VW than a Mercedes. The only thing keeping me from buying a Model S and trading in my E550 is the lack of AWD with the Model S but there are rumors AWD will be offered in 2014.

Really depending on where you live the E class drives great in snow regardless, I have owned both and have driven in snow with both. They all performed better than the SUV's i passed stranded on the side of the roads. I honestly, couldn't say my 4-matics drove really any different than the rear drive models i have had. I have even driven the convertible in the snow and it also handled great. I will check out this model S. thanks.
I used to drive non AWD cars too but after my E550 with 4MATIC I will never buy another non AWD car. The traction in snow and rain is phenomenal and I especially also like traction on dry pavement. When I want to go, the car has instant traction on all 4 wheels and I love the level of control I feel with AWD...
Granted I might be able to manage with non AWD but the way I see it in any situation I am going to be better off with AWD so why not have it...

When considering the model S it dawned on me that this is the future of the car. No stinking engines, transmissions, oil changes, emission issues to deal with. Granted the battery is an issue but I'd much rather not have to do deal with maintaining an internal combustion engine and all the cost repairs that go with it. Especially given all the engine and transmission issues I've had with my E550.
With the Tesla Model S the annual service and check up is optional! Imagine that...

Enjoy the test drive. There is really nothing else like it. If you go with the P85 version you can reach 60 in 4.2 seconds and the P85 also has about a 280 mile range on 100% electric power.

I had thought of that. There is still a power usage that emits junk into the air, it just isn't where we see it. The concern I have is that I generally drive more than 300 miles on a trip a few times a year. Wondering if the charge stations that are currently free to customers will stay that way and if there are enough in the right locations. I bet they have an app for that on the on-board Ipad!
Happy to see price is a bit better than the Bentley! Considering the cost of gas in a Bentley, there is even bigger savings. I wonder how often the battery cells need replaced and how much that will be.
They called to schedule test drive yesterday, but i was too busy and didn't get the chance to ask questions. I bet they will hold their value better than a Mercedes does now.
As far as the 4-matic, i guess i just don't have much snow here, so I don't need it. Love the feel of my convertible 550 when i hug the road! lol
I do love that car, just not happy with my e right now.
Have a great holiday weekend everyone! I just finished my thesis and I'm off with the kids to the pool!

MB fan & fun
We are MB fans, we had at home, some at different times, some at the same time, an E300, an E320, an E500, a CLK430 (fun). We still have a C230K and an E350. Looking to step it up to the SL500

SL500 is beautiful car, much bigger feel inside than the E class. Was a little more than i thought i could navigate easily. Maybe it is just my personal size, but i felt lost in the S class. My husband loved his sl500 roadster. It was very powerful and wasn't all that bad on the gas considering the size of the engine.

I checked new E class and was really disappointed with the new front. It has really ugly grill with oversized MB emblem. My old E class looks very handsome and classy. The new front isn't any better than Lexus GS. New S class looks good, but what they did to E class is simply terrible. I do not like look of 5 series, but new 550i looks sexier. So I would get new E ? I do not know.

Yes, the about-facelift of the E Class with its discordantly gaudy grafted on new parts reminds me of an old man in a Tapout shirt. Just looks awkward and terrible, like a facelift gone wrong, or like a Chinese-car ripoff of an E Class.
The original W212 E looked so good from the front, they messed with their own masterpiece with that goofy new thing.

I love my w212, had a chance still do to purchase the w213. I will not. The interior is ugly the rear end is a larger c class. Unless Mercedes Benz decides to go back to making the classic interior and making the new E more aggressive, my w212 will be the last E for me. Previously owned a 2011 E550 SEDAN and E420 loved both would consider the E550 again 2012 2011 version.

The W212 and W213 do absolutely nothing for me looks wise. I doubt I'd buy another W211 but would consider buying another W210.

I have owned and driven several E's starting with the 93', then went to '99 then to '06. They were all wonderful to drive, but the 06' was a huge money pit and my husband is convinced Mercedes is building them to break on purpose. I am not excited about the newer design, not a fan of interior options either, so i think i may jump ship and try something else. I traded the 06 for '15 infinite q70, but it has a lot of things that i am not impressed with and will get rid of it in the fall. Thinking about the sports cars again now that the kids are grown there is really no need to keep driving a 4 door anymore. I still own the CLK550 convertible which is a blast to drive, but it is getting older and I am thinking about trying the new lexus convertible. Not totally in love with the front end, but maybe it wont be as expensive or problematic to maintain as the last E was.

But I sold it mainly becouse the paint start to wear out and good car paint job in California exceed Mercedes value.
Still the 1998 diesel was making 28 mpg, the 2014 diesel is making 37 mpg and is more comfortable.
Life is always about choosing the right combination of compromises.
Still I sold 1981 300DTD for $3000 over a decade ago and seeing current prices, that was bad decision

Our 06 W211 has been a combination of comfort, performance, safety, and prestige for 12 years and 133K reliable miles. It replaced an 03 that was also a great car and helped to develop our appreciation for the brand and the owner experience. . Now we are beginning to consider a replacement but sadly it won’t be a new E class or any other MB within our price range. During recent service events I’ve had loaners of E and C models that did not impress. Performance may be statistically good, but the latest exterior and interior designs look like MB has turned over design responsibilities to the wrong people. Whoever thought that hair dryer portholes and flimsy plastic could be acceptable to those who can afford the price of an MB have , I believe, miscalculated what MB buyers are looking for . MB seems to be emulating design trends instead of creating them.

2010 E63 AMG, 2003 E500
On my third E Class with a 2003 E500 in Tectite Grey Metallic.
First Benz was a 1998 E320, then came a 2002 E320, both in Brilliant Silver.
Loved them all - simply amazing cars.
My current ride's V8 flat out ROCKS - smooth, seamless power delivery.
I've done Speed43 airbox, AMG E55 mufflers, Eurocharged ECU tune and mid-length headers, Sprint Booster.

The w210/w211 are the only proper looking E-classes to me. The w212 isn't bad but the headlights look really odd. I DO really like the interior of the new e classes but I can't stand the exterior looks. They look too bubbly. I can't tell anymore between the c class, cla, e class...etc. They lost that classic look to me which is sad. I absolutely love our 09 w211 sport. I love how it looks. It's a proper Mercedes to me. The new stuff without the hood ornament all have the same front end look which is sad to me. I don't know why Mercedes did that but I'm not a fan.

What ever you do, stay far away from the W211 E500-E550 4-Matic wagons so when I have enough funds saved up in the next few months to buy another, there will be plenty to choose from

I have 167K on my '03 and at this point, am thinking I will rebuild the front end and replace all the struts, so i can make a decision in another 100K miles. I have put the last 100K on this car with only tires, oil changes and spark plugs out of my pocket, and a sensomatic brake controller on the dealer's dime. I still prefer the look of the w211 to the "boy racer" looks of the later ones. Plus I can save 50K buy driving the wheels off of mine.

A Big NO!!! My 2003 E500 is the least reliable car I've ever owned! I have about an inch file on it. I have had numerous electrical and mechanical issues with it. Worse, on top of that, the dealer, Millenium, which I bought from in NJ, and did the most service with is totally imcompetent. On many occasions I had to bring the car back at least twice to get it done right. They could not even do an alignment correctly for crying out loud!
Granted, the car runs smoothly and quietly when it's not in the shop. But I wll not go through that ordeal again for a 64K car.

NOPE! Cannot justify 75k$ for a 4cyl turbo. Or a TT v6. Only E i would purchase after 2009 would be a 63 or a 550 with a M278 motor, which are super rare. The liberals have made the auto industry meet epa standards on a average MPG for the manufactures. Which in turn means you pay the same for less of a product. AMG v8"s are really your best bang for buck. The 550 is nice, however you can't get a W213 with a 550 (M278). Sad but true. All this EPA stuff is a fad anyways. Mercedes needs to stop trying to appease younger people and making the cars affordable. I wish they would get back to strictly focusing on luxury and performance. The jap. and american markets have affordable vehicles with good MPG's on lock. Euro manufacture build things like cla's that are both affordable and good on gas, but why would'nt you go get a fully loaded accord V6? Ah it doesn't have a star lmao.

I agree the way MB is going diluting the brand and targeting my age group generation is a desperate move. They should have stuck to what has worked for them for decades. Luxury performance and engineering. Now their focus is turning interiors, for nerds who live gadgets and need the latest LED screen. Im happy I pulled the trigger on my W212.
