Removing headliner from E wagon

Fellas,

Anyone have info on removing the rear top part of the headliner to run wires into the tailgate of the E wagon? Can one just pull down on the headliner or does it slide in or out, etc?

Thanks,

Smash

The Headliner is a PITA to remove on the Estate ..as I have done a couple and its a lot of work

Locate a Copy of WIS or use http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/

They will have ALL The steps required to remove the headliner

Mark,

Thanks. I noticed that there is a username/password & $$ required for the M/B site...I am not a member so I'll wait on this one.

From your experience, is taking down the rear part of the headliner required to get at the rear tailgate wiring up top? Can just a few feet of headliner be popped loose for this?

Also, what is the WIS you suggest?

Thanks much,

Smash

Snap!

Hey Smash!!

My wagon is in the shop at AutoAddiction on Long Island to get such work done just now. My tailgate shock got busted, and the lights on the tailgate itself stopped working.

I'll see if Jay has time to comment on this thread. He might even be able to take a few pics - I think he is doing the tailgate today.

Let me see
Good luck with your work!

Smash,
I think Konigstiger has a post that they will not charge you. The first year is free - download everything you want, then cancel the membership when the renewal comes around and they want to bill. So, the CC is just for the future.

Check the small print though - things change all the time.

Good luck!

I downloaded the info everyone is talking about and it is free, they ask for a card # but do not charge. It is pretty helpful to have for working on the car as well as being able to look at it while on the phone with your parts guy.

Jim,

Thanks for the comment! Yep please see if he can comment - we're good on all except for getting at the tailgate wiring - the easiest way. Can we talk? Can you PM his/your phone? I live in Germany and will happily pass mine if you want, or email.

I'll PM you shortly.

Smash,
I PM'd Jay on here but he's probably busy with my car (i hope!) LOL.

So, is it the tailgate lights or wiper that is giving you the problem? Jay did call me yesterday, and indicated it would be a little bit more labor, but that the whole headliner didn't need to come off. They thought they could get to the wiring by just getting under the left corner (left, as you look at the tailgate from outside).

But looks like you got access to the wiring diagrams, so you should be good.

Good luck with everything!
