will 255/30/20 work

i had some rubbing with 245/35/20 so im changing my tires

tirerack states 245/30/20 in the front but will 255 do?

Depending on your offset and where you rub. If you're already rubbing with a 245 wide tire, your probably still going to rub with a 255. From 35 to 30 your tire is only getting thinner but the width is still there. I would do 245/30/20 as that's what everyone is mostly recommending in here...

I also have 20's on my 2003 E320 and i have 245/35/20ZR Falken FK452 I had to do some modification on the car do to rubbin like u said. u could have 255 but your goin to have to do the same thing that i did on my car. here are some pics of wat i had to do to the car.
