Is the price right?
first off, being new to this posting thing, forgive me for any mistakes. i have just put a $1,000 deposit on a new '03 E320 silver/ash w/ CD changer & moon/sun roof, which is set for delivery around 12/9. the "negotiated" price was $48K and is $52.6k out the door on a cash sale. is this a fair price to pay or is the dealer getting too much profit? if so, how much lower could i go? kelly blue book puts the cost of this @ $45.3K inv/$50.2K retail. this being my first buy for a new car, let alone a new, redesigned MB, i would like to have a few impartial opinons. Thanks!

Dealer invoice as best reported to date is 93% of MSRP. Thus, the profit on a car witha $50K total "sticker" including options is $3500.
Posting on this forum have reported discounts as high as $3000 particularly in California and the East coast. Buyers in other areas of the country have not done as well.

Good Deal!!! ... depends really on where you are. There are many postings on this board regarding dealer discounts in Boston, California, etc. Have you checked with other dealers outside of Northridge, CA? Do a 'search' on this board on 'discounts' and you will see the threads on the subject not too long ago.

I also made a slight error in calculating the sales tax. I had assumed 6%; I do believe that sales tax in CA is more like 8% & change. In this case, the savings would be higher for our friend Pinay! (from the Phil? Me, too)

the destination charge is already included in the Base + Transp of 47,615

Pinay:
What dealership is this?
We have heard best discounts of around 2500 off MSRP.
or 800 over Invoice.
Calculate your MSRP and INVOICE based on abhansali mentioned site in this post. Then let us know how you did.

e500 discount
mco,
Please email me (mksuarez@att.net) your dealer & the sales person that gave you $3000 off. I have a car coming 3rd week of Dec. & my dealer MB of San Francisco is not keen on giving me a discount.
I am looking for an E500 B. silver/charcoal E2, E3 (sport) & CD changer. Thanks in advance.

Thank you all for your input. I will be doing some recalulating and try to renegotiate based on the info received. BTW, are the invoice/MSRP prices on the site that abhansali posted about right at this point in time or have they changed?

Invoice not MSRP
One point of note.
It is to customer's advantage in asking for XXX over invoice
rather than asking for $$$ under MSRP.
Difference in MSRP and Invoice keeps increasing as you add
options. (because most options also have MSRP higher than
their invoice)
Thus, when you get a little over invoice you are sure,
it is the better deal than off of MSRP.
(For example my 320 with desired options has $3490 difference between MSRP and invoice. If I asked for 2500 off MSRP I will still pay 1000 over invoice....which is more than what many dealers offer now for the new Es...)
My 2 cents.
