full refund offer

i brought my copy of the full refund offer with me today. it's pretty straightforward. it says:

At House of Imports we believe our customer should take advantage of extended protection that exceeds the factory warranty. Accordingly, we offer a 100% full refund of the purchase price of our coverage when you keep your car the full term of the service contract in either time or miles, and have no claims.

Bring us your service contract at expiration and, after verifying the claim status, we will mail you a refund within 30 days. This offer does not apply if you had a claim, requested an early cancellation, or transferred coverage.

it's signed by them and has the customer name, address, vehicle info (like VIN, etc.), contract number, and price.

Then it says:

This refund offer expires on 12/7/2009 or when vehicle has 100,000 miles.

Then it is signed and dated by customer.

I'm not sure if this is offered to anyone who wants to buy the extended warranty from them. The finance guy told me that this offer is only valid if i buy the warranty today instead of later.

Coverage is 84 months, 100,000 miles platinum plan with $100 deductible with $50 deductible reduction if taken to the dealership where i purchased coverage. it is with Automobile Extend which the guy said is the standard extended warranty that they use.

anyway, hope that info helps. like i said, i wasn't going to buy the extended warranty b/c i figured i would wait a couple of years and then buy it from a 3rd party (like warrantydirect, warrantygold, or any other internet place) but the refund offer did make me think twice...especially after the guy lowered his price a bit.

Rock.

It reads to me that you have to drive less than 100000 by 2009 and if you exceed this, then you wont get any refund regardless of whether you submitted a decuctible claim or not within the time/mileage frame. ie 2009. So looks like you have to drive on average less than 15000 per year and hold on to your car till 2009 if you hope to see your money back..

Very safe for them...if you are disgusted with your car ie lots of breakdown, you sell it. Then no refund. If you claim even once (must be more than say $1700 else you lose your refund) then no refund. If you drive a lot, more that 15000 per year, then also no refund.
But 100000 also = original MB warranty, only stretched out to 7 years!!! And there is a deductible!!!

So if you are interested in the refund feature of this warranty....weigh carefully... and perhaps may be better than regular warranty.

Re: full refund offer

ValueplusClass: Take another look at the contract paragraphs below. What do you see that tells you that you have to wait the full seven years? I think it is very clear that it is either 7 years or 100k miles whichever occurs first. Thus, you could put 100k miles on in 5 years with no claim and get your money back.
Am I wrong?

What a lot of bull!!

Read the following thread -- if you are within the first year, otherwise, you cannot get the official MB extended warranty, which will be listed on the MB database.

The warranty varies by model and for AMG you pay more. Get in touch with Lisa Lehrbaum, she saved me over 1 grand!

Etenn: this is the line that does it as described above:

"This refund offer expires on 12/7/2009 or when vehicle has 100,000 miles"

An expiry = no refund, and you have to apply for the refund, it does not seem automatic.

hmmm

i posted it up here to hear comments just like this. now that i look at it, it does look a little fishy.

it says that the refund expires on 12/7/09 (7 years from now) or at 100,000 miles yet you can't apply for the refund until either 100,000 miles hits or it passes 12/7/09. so does that mean that by the time you are eligible to apply for it, the refund offer expires?

it's like betting on a football game but you can't collect until the game ends. but the bet also expires when the game ends.

sounds like a strange contradiction to me.

Called Lisa

I called Lisa at Courtesy Motors yesterday and she left me a message quoting $1790 for the premium extended service warranty. What happened to the $1350 price? Anyone got this $1350 or so price from them?

Re: Called Lisa

$1790 sounds correct, as far as I know/check, majority of S.California dealerships are asking above $2000 for the premium coverage.

Re: Re: Called Lisa

.

The best price I have heard was from rayscar at his dealer in Va..$1620. at the start of this thread.

It sounds like you got a quote about $100. higher which is still a good deal compared to what the rest of the posts have been.
Is the same as rayscar posted? Premium, no deductable, 7 years, 100k.

Yes, it is the "Premium, no deductable, 7 years, 100k". My understanding is Lisa herself is a finance manager who can take care the contract directly, instead of sales representative who can sell you the warranty but they need to work with finance personnel to get that done (i.e.: the more people get involved with the process, the more money you need to pay).

Our local dealer's service department also sell other warranty (non-MB); it costs more, but it can be purchased anytime w/o the first-year only limitation.

I got mine from lisa on the last day before my cars 1 year anniv. she said that to get the official MB extended warranty, u have to get it within a year of your purchase date. i got Mercedes Premium extended waranty for $1800 for additional 48/50000 miles. it covers everything except radio/COMMAND/CD and trim.

Unfortunately, the newer Premium warranty (starting from year 2002) has shorten the years limitation (now is 36 month).

Actually, it is okay for me. I haven't (but will try to) kept a car for more than 3 years; my wife always complaints "you are just paying the premium price, and taking care of the cars for some lucky ones to pick them up later". I "promised" her that I will restrain myself from repeating the mistake again

That's correct.

And, if you drive between 15-20 k miles a year, get a 24 nonths extended MB Premium --- and you save a couple hundred additional bucks!!

IMPORTANT:

If you are out of state - NOT in CA, - you save your state sales tax, because it is an internet sale. A 7% sales tax rate for a $2,000.- policy extension would save you another $140.-!

Time to chime in....

Rock, it sounds to me like you purchased an aftermarket warranty.....not a MB Factory Limited Extended Warranty. That's why you have a deductible and the refund offer.

Karl.....again you provide great news (I can save the sales tax!)
