Blacked Out Wood or Not

A little weekend useless post. How many prefer the lighter burl wood instead of the blacked out stuff that comes by default with the Sport option?

Traditional Burl Walnut

Black Birdseye Maple

Depends on the interior color.

Black interior - Birdseye Black.
Cashmere interior - Burl Walnut
Ash interior - Birdseye Black

Have ash interior, definitely the black wood.

Oh and don't forget the wood steering wheel. Just changes the whole look of the interior, I love it.

Totally on board about the wood wheel, it makes the car a Mercedes. But I just like my wood to look like wood and black burl just cheapens the look to me. Never argue taste

Plus the wheel takes on a greenish look to it when its struck by sunlight, with white wood visible.

The brown wood is much richer looking.

No flame, but that is probably because it wasn't available in your MY. A blanket statement like that needs to explained further.

In a 4 season climate its hot and cold. But I agree with the BBM wood.

I ordered my Arctic White/Ash car with the optional wood burl and matching burl steering wheel. I wouldn't change a thing, it's just beautiful, imo. If the car were a full on performance car, maybe the black burl or aluminum look would be the ticket, but I love the classy, traditional look of wood in this car. I've also replaced the ugly black plastic lock knobs with the chrome and added chrome seat adjuster knobs to continue the old school look. It's purty!

Had the Burl in the past. My new Benz has the BBEM. Love it. Check my signature.

Stan

ps. You NEED the wood/leather steering wheel to make it work.

MB is very proud of their wood. I got one of the center clamshell opener pieces replaced for $165 installed. I can't imagine how much it would be to do the whole car. Probably $10k. In my opinion, it would not be cost effective under any circumstances to change wood. Take the money and put a down payment on an E63 that includes the wood you want.

I had the opportunity to see an 08 E350 with the optional Designo wood interior and wood wheel and it was amazing. I was going lease this car but did not want a 4matic. The dealer is trying to find me a non 4matic with this Designo option. the pictures shows what the Designo wood color looks like.

My '06 was charcoal with burl.
For a change I got ash with BBEM on the '08.
I think they are both very nice, but to each his own.

I love the Burl Walnut that MB uses. Very rich looking and I love the whorls. Two of the best interior color combos I've ever seen for the E-Class is the Black/Sahara Beige, and the designo Graphite.

Normally I vote forr Burl, but...

AmDeutsch, what is the name color of the wood trim in your car? Never seen it before... nice COMBO.

Can you still get RED leather from Mercedes, as don't see it on the color chips (maybe a custom?).

Its called Black Birdseye Maple. The interior is called cognac and was only available with the sport package in my MY.
