Message "Check oil level at next refueling"
Has anyone experienced the following message appear in the Information Center: "Check Engine Oil Level at Next Refueling"?
I have had my car at the dealership 6 times for this message and they cannot get it right. Reflashed the main computer, replaced the oil sensor, reflashed the instument cluster, changed the oil sensor with another type. Just picked up the car from the service department a hour ago and the message appeared within 10 minutes.
Time for something different (either car or dealer!).
Mercedes Benz of Freehold (NJ) is doing the work. Their quality is bordering on poor. Stay away!!

Long shot nevertheless suggest they check the engine model designation and oil data set of the ASSYST control unit through DAS, inspect the oil dipstick, replace if necessary, and check the oil level. This procedure corrected the oil-warning message in some other models one being the e63.

Don't assume it is full.
Drain the oil. Refill with correct amount and confirm it is full, then check FSS. My guess is it was serviced and is low oil. Someone might not have known the correct qty and shorted a qt.

I had this message on the third day of my new car; my oil cap was not on properly and a little bit squirted out; the dealerhip was very nice even though they were not the ones I bought the car from; they cleaned everything up; hence I had my first oil change around 500 miles.

Thanks for comments.
The dealership has tried so many scenarios. After speaking with the Regional folks, we learned that a revised oil sensor is available to deal with the message appearing. That revised oil sensor was installed yesterday and within 10 minutes, the same Check Oil Level at Next Refueling appeared.
The oil dip stick and tube was replaced. The brain was reflashed. The instrument cluster was reflashed. Two different oil sensors replaced. Oil was added. Oil was taken out. I seriously doubt that Mercedes has an effective solution. I know others are experiencing the same.
Interestingly, no problems for the first 35K miles on my 2006 E350 4matic. Then there were some factory updates done, one of them was the dip stick tube. And now no one can fix it. Unless I am just rationalizing what is happening, but the messages appeared when the dip stick tube was replaced. The dealership says that it is not the problem.
Six months, 25 days to go until the end of the lease....do you think I am counting.

What seems interesting to me is that 33,543 vehicles were involved (MY06-07 203 & 211 4matic) yet to date no similar complaints have been posted in this thread. Anyway, there was a DTB released 4/25 regarding low oil level symptoms I will see if this applies and if so post my findings Monday or so.

Thank you for your offer to look into any updated info.
I really do appreciate any help you can provide to create a path to a solution. I used the car today (Sunday) and the message appeared 6 times. It is worse after the updated oil sensor was installed this past Saturday.

Thank you for your offer.
The car is back at the dealership again. They are talking to the Factory tech advisors in German! The factory people are concerned as the new revised oil sensor installed on Saturday was "the fix" everyone was counting on. Unfortunately, it made the issue worse as the message comes on within 10 minutes of driving the car.
I will PM my email address and VIN.
Thanks again.

An Update
Finally the car is fixed! It took 8 visits to the dealership (Mercedes Benz of Freehold) and involvement by the engineers in Germany. Apparently, a revised oil sensor was designed to deal with the false messaging. A service bulletin was released on April 25th but had some incorrect data. The new oil sensor did not interface with the reflashed instrument cluster. Lots of time downloading data from my car and uploading to Germany. They identified the programing error and it was fixed.
Now -- I hope the story they have told me is correct. Alternatively, they could have just pulled the wire to disconnect the messaging error. Either way, this was an unnecessary journey (8 times). I am now negotiating with MB to cover a few lease payments. They have offered 1 month but given the pain...not enough goodwill.
So..if people ask "has the quality of Mercedes improved?"...I too am wondering.

Given our daughter's Ford Escort drove 125,000 trouble free miles with NO warranty claims. Makes you wonder.
Our E500 has only had a few warranty claims.

I had something similar with my C-Class. After Service B my center console sometimes turned red telling me that there is too much oil in the car and I should not use it. I took it back to Globe where they acknowledged that they put too much oil into the car. They drained some and the problem went away.

Don't forget, the DIC oil checking feature was removed from the 07's & '08s. Id have to say that the cars from '07 onward have vastly improved quality levels. Everything that gave owners fits was either "removed" (disabled & hidden) or repaired on '07+ model year cars.
Congratulations on the fix!

Soooooooooooo,, does this mean the ball joints last longer than 68,000 miles? And the memory seats do work??
And,,,, ?? brakes last longer than 30,000 miles?
Wife loves the car. I'd prefer driving my vett. Much cheaper more power drives better but,, can only carry 2.
I suppose if she wants another one,, I will buy it.

Aloha,
My 08 car started displaying the Check the Oil Level at Next Refueling.
I've checked the oil level and it is full.
So, I take it the Oil Level Sensor is the problem?
How much does it cost to replace it?
Would appreciate your help.
Thanks.

Now in an (early) '03 E500. No dipstick. Checked oil level a few days ago, all normal. Several days later message "Add 1 qt. oil at next refueling" came on. Added a qt. Warning came back today. I pulled over and checked the level. It said I should add 2 qts! . A few minutes later message "Add 1 qt. oil at next refueling" came on again. Checked the level again and it said I should add 2qts. Then the RED WARNING came on "VISIT WORKSHOP. OIL LEVEL LOW!". Parked, turned off, and saw 2 malfunctions..."Add 1qt at next refueling" and "VISIT WORKSHOP. OIL LEVEL LOW!". Turned off the ignition, pulled the key out, turned the ingnition it back on and the malfunctions are gone.
Checked oil with MBII scanner. Says 0mm both at idle (live) and with engine off.
Is there a way to measure the actual amount of oil in the car (no dipstick)?
(Since found a workaround from the usual cluster procedure to read engine oil quantity. I lived and worked five years in Moscow. Russians are the best hackers:
)
Please tell me it's the oil level sensor!
