Hard Decision: Purchasing a NEW 2008. C63 or E550???
Hello! I am getting a new car but for me its a super hard decision, it's basically either a brand new 2008 E550 or a brand new C63 AMG. The E-class will be basically fully loaded:
Your Summary
M.S.R.P.* $60,525
Exterior Color (Metallic paints are standard for this model.)
Black $0
Interior Color
Black Leather $0
Wood Trims
Black Birdseye Maple Trim $0
Options
Electronic Trunk Closer $530
Panorama Sunroof $1,010
Voice Control $510
Packages
P2: Premium II $4,770
321 AMG Sport Package $2,000
Accessories
DVD COMAND Navigation Kit $1,502
Hands-Free Communication System - Bluetooth Interface Module $493
Blue Illuminated Door Sills (set of 4) $770
Gas Guzzler Tax $0
Total $72,110
As for the C63, Im not sure what the options are but im sure i'll probably look for options that are similar to the ones I chose in the E-class. I am aware that the E-class has options that the C-class does not offer (one of the reasons why i am considering the E-class). I'm single and do not have any kids, I just want a car that I can enjoy, but have the luxury, and the luxury of being fast. That's about the jist of everything.
Thanks!!! oh yah... If oyu do decide to help me out. Please let me know why you sway one way or the other, and just let me know. Im basing my decision of what all you say!

I would probably go with the C63 since -
1. It's an authentic AMG
2. It's faster
3. The bodystyle will stay current longer
Have you driven the C63? I know the E550 is fast, but the AMG has a different throttle mapping and would just be an all around more fun car to drive IMO, assuming you don't need the extra room in the E-class. It would be hard to convince me to purchase (especially at $70k+) a new E-class with the body style preparing to change. Are you leasing or buying? When a Mercedes (if you have a W210 you know this already) changes body styles, the previous ones dive in value.
Also, you can remove the DVD COMAND under accessories since it is a factory option.

wait. let me get this straight. So for the new body style of the E550, i thought that it was new to 2008??? what body style are they coming out with next? i thought the new body style was called the W212 or something. and i thought that body style was gonna hold for a few years. I know that some things are different in the New Body Style (W212?) than the W211 E50. Please correct me if im wrong. with the E class i was get the amg package which will have I believe the AMG body, steering wheel w/aluminum shift paddles, and amg exhaust. I enjoy the E-class, and a few of my friends have C-classes and i dont like the space inside, feels cramped. But is the new c-class bigger?

Your best bet would be to visit a dealer and sit in both, W204 & W211, if space is a concern. Other than that there are several threads on the upcoming W212. The W211 underwent a refresh for MY07.

MY07 = Model Year 2007
I'm in 100% agreement with the above two post comments... But the winner would be the car that you actually drive and put the Pedal-to-the-Metal !!! (Hold on Tight!)

The W212 will be new, but it is expected to be a 2010 model and released in the US in late 2009. If that is the car you are referring to, then I can't really answer your question as no one has really seen a W212 or has any experience with them yet. Just speculation mainly and some hacked up spy photos that doesn't show any detail (at least the amount of detail I would like to see before I spend $70k).

The c bodystyle is new but the w212 is comming probably in one year. The change you are referring to is the recent facelift...

It really comes to the following choices:
C63/E550
Real angry sportscar/ fast luxury limousine
Less rear seat space/more rear seat space
Rough ride/comfy cruising
AMG/basic Mercedes
Just arrived model with its possible first year glitches/just ending model with old body style, but reliable

Re: E550 vs. C63
I would suggest that you drive both and see which suits your needs. Both are great cars, but have very different personalities. The E550 is probably a better balanced overall car, but the C63 is 100% Benz on steriods and a blast to drive. I'm not sure I would want a C63 for a daily driver though.
Unless you are in a hurry, if you go with the E550 I would wait about a month or so as MB will likely put approx. $5K of trunk money on the remaining 08 models, and you will be able to get a very good deal. With the soft economy in the US, there will be discounts before too long.
I am going to keep my 550 but will add a C63 to my stable. I just passed on an 08 C63 at $3K discount as it will be 1 model year old in about 30 days. I would wait for the 09 model if you can. The 09 will have, amongst other things, a P30 option package with limited slip differential which the C63 sorely needs. The first 09's are being built in late May and will be in the states by late June/early July. I am told that pricing will be pretty much the same as the 08 model.
Good luck and let us know what you get.

'12 Mustang 5.0, '89 Supra Turbo, C55,
The E550 is fantastic with awesome power. The C63 is a hand-built by one man AMG monster. Have u looked at the hp/torque specs?
No reason for a single person who wants to enjoy a car to choose a E550 over a C63. U will REGRET the decision if you get the E550 IMO.
MB's are incredible cars. Then take "incredible", and hand it over to AMG...
But as always, only you can answer this question. Take them both out for a spin, and good luck!
PS, the ONLY reason you should choose a E550 over a C63, is cuz the wife said so....but lucky for you, that is NOT the situation.

I think you answered your own question... " I want Luxury and Fast!"... and since you are single and don't need the back seat area..
Get the C63 with the Black trim (Black Bird's Eye Maple) and the Cocnac leather to give you the luxury. The Aluminum trim is more sporting but not luxurious.
The Wood Steering wheel ! is an absolute Must Have option too!!
But stop all the talking and go to the Dealer now and drive the C63... you will decide pretty fast!

haha thanks! all the local dealers dont have any c63's around. They already sold them all. Basically im really going for the c63 now, but the only thing that is still iffy to me is the luxury options. Like having the electonic trunk closer, bluetooth, pana roof, keyless go, GPS, illuminated door sills, all those goodies. I haven't been able to see the available c-class options for the C63 AMG, but i do know that some of those options are not available, but not sure which, and i am pretty big on those little details, not sure why.
