Air suspension collapse

Walked up to my E500 Wagon this morning and noticed the front right was down on the bump stops. There was a "too low" warning light but the car pumped itself up. I notice there is a strange whistling noise from the front too.

I'll take it to the dealer but it is Saturday and there won't be any techs around.

Any idea what would be required to fix it? Big job, little job?

This just happened to me...my airmatic pump and relay went out. The tech that worked on it said that it's pretty common for the pump to go out. It's covered under warranty. Took a couple of hours for them to replace the pump.

Thanks - I just dropped it at the shop and got a loan car for a couple of days.

My car is currently in the shop with the same symptoms (low right front, with squeaking)...it has been diagnosed as blown airmatic strut. About 2 months out of factory original warranty-SO GLAD i have pre-owned coverage, once again!

gOOD LUCK!

Just bought an 03 500 & in 3 days; drivers seat control, heater valve & now airmatic have failed!!! All this on a car that has 44k on the clock!

I have repaired the seat control (loose connection). Replaced the control valve ($40 & 1 hour in the garage), but I'm concerned about the airmatic.

I was pulling out of the garage when it failed. Same symtoms hissing noise from right wheel well, wouldn't pump up & finally the "car too low" signal. Any advise before I start digging into this new project?

Thanks...

Gotta love the 2003's....

No advice for you other than to get an aftermarket extended warranty. The '03's are infamous for problems.

Good luck with her.

We got the car back yesterday and the dealer called to say that although the car is 6 months out of warranty, the repair cost will be met by the factory and the dealer splitting the cost. And I didn't even ask!

Great service from BEA Motors, Adelaide.
