Solved: E320 CDI whirring noise from A/C
Hi from a new member! I was wondering if anyone has any idea about a whirring noise coming from the A/C in my -05 e320 cdi? I tried the search, but found no definitive answer so here goes nothing.
Anyway, the whirring noise is really random, meaning that sometimes it's on and sometimes it's not. Mainly it comes on when hitting a road bump or similar upward motion of the car because of the road (this can also make it go away). The whirring stops if I press the A/C off, but it also stops when I manually put more speed to A/C (like setting 4,5 or 6 on a 1-6 scale), so it mainly is on when A/C's on lower speed setting or auto setting.
It's also definitely dependant on the rpm, but only in motion. I just tried revving the engine with different settings on the a/c and could not reproduce the effect, although just a moment ago the noise was there when driving the car.
This is a mystery to me and I'd really appreciate any help on what to check next or in a good luck if someone knows the exact problem based on the symptoms. I have SDS, but it shows nothing out of the ordinary.

Yeah, Star gave green light to AC so today I took off the AC motor from the passenger side. Gave a bit of lubricant to bearing, cleaned it with pressurized air and reassembled. First test drive and no extra sounds from AC at any speed setting. So I'm guessing that's the problem and I need to replace that part in the future.

Sounds like your HVAC fan (blower motor) is going bad. Here is one on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-W211-W219-Blower-Motor-Heater-AC-Fan-OEM-/140617832699?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20bd79d8fb&vxp=mtr#ht_3188wt_1636
I replaced mine a few years ago as it would whine a bit, espically when cornering. It is an easy install took 30 min its located behind the glove box if I recall. There are DIYs for this fix on several forums.

Thanks for the tip guys. Looks like a cheap part, I was getting ready for a $200 loss. But as I said previously, I took the part off for lubrication & cleaning and it is an easy task. The passenger side cover under the glove compartment has 2 x torx, the plastic cover for the motor 4 x torx and the motor is 4 x torx and yatzy, it drops to your hand.
