stuck eyeglass holder

I had the same problem. I bought the car off lease and it was stuck shut. It was under warranty at the time and I took it to the dealer. He tried to blow me off saying that it was hard to get to. He said you have to take the glove compartment out to get to it. I insisted and it was repaired when I picked it up. I never knew if something was stuck inside it. That compartment and the motorized door for the CD changer are very delicate. I never use either one because they are prone to jamming shut. Sorry I can't offer more info.

That drawer is so small..I certainly cannot fit sunglasses in it. I currently now use it for NOTHING, since even some gum packs cannot fit in it. I am open to suggestions:
HOW DO OTHERS USE THIS NARROW, SHALLOW DRAWER? I would love to know.

We live in private neighborhood with a lake, beaches parks etc... You need to have this little review mirror hangy thing whenever you're at one of those places. Problem is, the MB mirror won't allow me to put this thing on there. This is a long story to say that I use that little cubby for that hangy thing.

My wife stores her sunglasses in there and loves it. I'm not sure if mine would fit.

I use the little drawer for coins. Used to use it for my iPod, but now use the ash tray for my iPod.
Guess if I ever start smoking I would have to find a new home for the iPod.

My wife was showing the car to a neighbor (female) after she had initially sat in it and driven for about 5 minutes. The first thing the woman did was touch the cup holder release and squealed with delight as it unfolded. The next thing she tried was the touch latch on the little tray which did not work. The two of them spent the next few minutes discussing what it could be for. Just like magpies and tin foil.
Back to the stuck device. My SA suggested I try to pry it open with a plastic picnic knife. I had little motivation to try it but just to be a good customer, I did and just as I figured, it did not release.

In my car that is the change holder
and holds the lucky buckeye my aunt gave me for good luck.
My sunglasses would have to be crushed into pieces to fit into that cute little "drawer."

My sunglasses could never fit in that drawer. My favorite gum packages are also too large. Garage door opener? Why, since there are programmable buttons for the garage doors....I never carry an old fashioned garage door opener.
I sure hope that some day I find a "real" use for that drawer. How much effort would it have taken for Mercedes to make it deeper, wider, and higher. Not much, I think. Perhaps the Germans have really small sunglasses.

Back on topic.
The rear seat armrest has that same kind of push to release drawer in the front section. Mine would not open and the dealer had to replace the whole armrest, under warranty thankfully.
Bottom line is that it's not repairable without removing the whole drawer assembly somehow, maybe through the glovebox.
