E500 to E55 front end conversion question...
To anybody that has put an E55 front end on their non-AMG W211.....
I'm doing a conversion right now. My body shop is telling me that my fog light bulb/housing/connector thingy won't fit and lock into the E55 fog light housing. I thought they were the same but apparently they're not. Has anyone else run into this situation? And if so, what was the fix?
Thanks.

Clayton, our 2004 W211 w/ appearance package uses an H11 bulb for the foggies and I believe the E55s use 9006 bulbs. You'll have to change the connectors. This is what you'll need.

So can I just cut the other connectors off and connect these using a barrel connector? Any problem with voltage?

Regarding wattage, make sure the bulbs you're installing are 35 watts to avoid any error messages. Can't wait to see your Frankensteiner project!

Sweet....can't wait to see the conversion! Good to see you guys are still around. I just picked up a 2006 SL65 AMG this afternoon. Pewter with only 1,200 miles.
Jeff....it's your turn for an AMG now Clayton has the AMG conversion and I picked up an SL65.

Jesus H. Christ! Gorgeous. Me thinks that you just spent about 90K on that car. The heroin business is good, I see.

Heroin is too old school...hahaha. It was $112K+$8K sales tax = $120K. I just couldn't believe it's an '06 with only 1,200 miles. It still has 3.5 years of factory warranty. Previous owner never drove it. Definately faster than my XKR but again it has 180+ more HP. I know it's been redesigned for '09 but it still looks decent.

Whaaatttzzupp Jeff! How's your Lakers doing. At least it's still early in the series. I think it's time for you to get the SLR.
Here's some pics of the SL65
Some pics of the new wheels and painted calipers:

It ended up good and bad.
The Good - The overall appearance of the car is vastly improved. The E63 rear is nothing short of gorgeous. The smoked lenses are perfect and the blacked out roof is very interesting, to say the least.
The Bad - The body shop that did the paint, didn't do the best job. We're working that out now.
I'll take some pics today and post em up.
