Rashed, I just came back from the dealer now. I tried to get the larger driver side air duct from s500 2000-2005, but no luck. I've tried a few that the dealer had in stock but they didn't fit. The side that goes into the radiator support doesn't look the same, and the angle of the bend that goes into the air filter housing is not the same. I read about it from your cousin's tread, and was wondering whether you did it on your car, and have the exact part number from the air duct. It is very nice to hear about the vets and the g35's 37's. keep it up. Also tomorrow I will be taking the car the a muffler shop to get x-pipe installed.

Forget the E550, just get a CPO E55, and with a few bolt ons, youll be running 11.7 like me.

Oh, and Rasheed, none of those cars you mentioned are actually fast cars, they are "quick" cars, and nothing to brag about IMO.

As low as these prices are getting on E55s nowadays, you might as well just get one

I've been considering this exactly. How are the E55's reliability wise? I'm concerned about SC failures - are there any? I imagine all W211 problems such as airmatic are there, but anything specific to the E55? I'll read up on that section, but what are your thoughts? Thanks.

You do not, I repeat, DO NOT want to own a W211 E55 out of warranty.

The reliability on this car is has been great so far. Ive been out of warranty since March, and have had no issues whatsoever (other than the Evo headers cracking). Sure there are some cars out there that have been abused, but the one I bought was very well taken care of, Im sure there are plenty of good examples out there. The difference between the 55 and 500 is Huge. Its a different car altogether.

People need to understand that this car came with forged internals, so the drivetrain is very solid stock. My car has 600 HP and is still a very reliable daily driver. The key is the cooling. As long as you get the cooling package, you should be in great shape.

My point is that most people that buy an E55 AMG buy it because they love the torque, speed and overall ***** in the throat experience you get when you floor one these animals. So, one can assume that anyone who drives one of these cars will drive it hard and not just putt-putt around in traffic. As expensive as the E500's are to fix normal wear items as well as items that have broken out of warranty, I can only imagine what the costs are associated with fixing AMG vehicles.

Ed, I'm also sure you turn a lot of your own wrenches at your shop, no? Many people have no choice but to take the car to the dealer.

Honestly, I wouldnt know what to do with a wrench if it came with instructions The normal wear and tear parts are all very similar in the two cars. For example, I got my motor mounts replaced for 180. thats less than a civic. I also agree that most people who drive these cars drive them like theyre supposed to be driven. AMG knew that, and made the neccessary changes to compensate for the power IMO. I know for a fact that when Vic owned my car, he hit 160 at least once a day in it, and really gave it a run for its money. But, again, thats what the AMGs are made for, and they can handle it just fine. I havent heard many horror stories about the E55, other than the normal airmatic failure, etcc,, all things that also happen to the 320 and 500 models. There are people with 100,000+ mile E55s that still drive them daily, without issues, other than regular scheduled maintenances.

Tks. for the reply. I guess my real concern is how user servicable are these bad boys? I apologize for straying off topic. I have begun to read the E55 forums. They are amazing beasts, and I'd own one if they are DIY friendly.

Very true, I'll keep that in mind and look ahead once I'm done with the E350's lease.

"taking" Corvettes??? I hope they're from the mid 70's, suffocating from smog pumps and low compression. If not, I don't think they know that you're trying to race them! The LS3's have 430hp (stock) and weigh only 3200lbs. I believe they run high 12's to low 13's in the 1/4.........
