211 ATF oil level check

Just purchased ATF oil level tool:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...271423085&rd=1

Can anyone outline the correct procedure for me, measure while cold or hot?
Just spent 10 min in the garage looking for a ATF oil level tube, could not find it, anyone has a pic of where it is on a CDI?

Ok,, you will have to hunt for the transmission tube. It is located at the rear of the engine below the air intake just above the bell housing. There will be a "semi" rectangle cap on it that states "MB Workship". There is a 1 time use locking tab on the cap. You will have to buy a new one.
Part # A1409910055 for the lock tab/pin.
The Cap is part # A1402700091

If you press the tab down it might release the cap. If this does not release you will have to break off the tap then push it down to release the cap lock. Once the tab lock is removed you can remove the seal cap.

This is really easier than it sounds. You might need a small screwdriver to press the lock pin down after you break the tab off. But try first to see if you can get the cap to unlock. I broke the tab off of mine and removed the seal cap then reused the broken lock pin minus the tab and it locked/sealed up.

Changing the transmission fluid is easy but I highly recommend you follow MB recommendations for fluid.

If you can't find the transmission fill tube jack the car pull the covers and find it on the transmission, then follow it up to the topside in the engine compartment. DON"T confuse the oil fill for the transmission fill.

To check have the engine warm for 10 min or so,, in park idle then check as normal car. After you have gone through the Whoop La to find and remove the cap. Too bad it isn't marked in Yellow with a dip stick as 99% of the cars are to make this an easy job. Best of luck.

When I changed mine I pulled the pan and carefully measured how much I drained out. 4qts was in the pan. I added 4 qts to top off and all is well. Won't get into the gotta flush discussion. I just changed oil / filter in the pan as I have done since I bought my 70 Pontiac new. Never had a tranny failure and some went over 200000 miles and used as tow vehicle.

Thanks for detailed info, I purchased 5L of tranny oil and filter from autohausaz.com
I will just drain the fluid, and replace what came out. Also install new tranny filter. I am really hoping I can get down to the root of my tranny leak without involving the stealer$$$, the car has over 95k miles on it and the warranty is long gone!

For those of you who are DIY, I purchased the oil dipstick and tranny dipstick for about $60. They are repro's of M-B tools (I believe). I got them from Baum? tools. As for the locking tab on the tranny filler tube, when ordering from Autohauz these things are about $0.99 each. The oil pan plug copper gasket is $0.11 (maybe a price increase due to metals escalation). If you forget and order them after the fact, they have a pretty serious handling charge. So for $3.00 worth of parts you pay $12/$15. The copper washers are NOT available at Home Depot or Ace hardware and they will leak (sometimes) if you reuse them. I read in another forum that placing the copper washer in an oven at 400 degrees for 30 minutes would anneal them and they were as good as new. For $0.11 I think I will replace them. Still if you have none, it might work. Sorta like my reluctance to reuse the smallest O- ring on the filter stalk, but after I dropped the new one down into never never land in front of the radiator, my standards dropped rapidly.
