Talking Cool use of New E Feature

I was driving my E500 with my wife and child entering the Atlanta area. We decided to try TelAid for Concierge service and get restaurant reservations on a Friday evening for Atlanta Fish Market. They got us the reservations without a problem (we chose an early time knowing we would have a better chance.)

Then I couldn't remember how to get to the restaurant exactly. Being a guy, I didn't want to pull over and ask for directions as my wife requested. I punched the i button again and requested road directions. They stated they would get me to the front door but would have to research it. They knew my name, of course, but even asked if I had my cell phone with me so they could call back rather than keep me on hold. They had my cell phone number and called back. My wife was amazed that they knew our location and gave me precise instructions on getting to the front door as promised by the teleaid. We made our reservations on time and enjoyed the fried lobster tails!

Of course, in a few months when navigation on the command system is available and installed, I will not even need to make that second use of Teleaid.

Zero (or so I was told, by TeleAid).

Eh, if it was the same thing as cell it would be $0.10 per minute, not $1.10 per minute!

And yes, sure, concierge etc: well, my platinum cards give me the same, but for $0 per minute. I.e. this service can be cool, as our friend points out, but it is very expensive. I wonder when the bill comes, how much this restaurant booking will have cost altogether.

This may be a contrarian view, but I have renewed Tele-Aid on my MB just to assure myself of the SOS capability--both active and passive in case of "the big accident". I've never used the travel services. It also includes the GPS locator, and the remote unlocking. If you have a child and the car gets locked with him or her inside, the price would be worth it.

Same with an accident. If I can reach the SOS button I'd pay big bucks for it to work if I'm severely injured in the boondocks where I live. Nearby, there is a canal running along a very lonely stretch of 2 lane road running into eastern NC, and I know an On-Star alert let the sheriff know of a car that had gone into the canal, and its location, and the driver was rescued. It's just another form of insurance.

I'm just curious...with keyless go, if you lock your keys in the car, wouldn't it still open with a touch of the door handle? The key would still be in range. If anyone has keyless go, could you please test this out? (don't lock BOTH keys inside though :p )

No argument there, though it is expensive insurance. And since it uses a cell phone network, it is doubtful it would work in the boondocks (my cell phone does not work where I am building my cottage, less than an hour away from Toronto, for instance).

My feeling is, if it were, say, $100-$200 a year it'd be worth it. Or if it would be "free for reporting car problems when your car is under warranty".

the keylessgo will not let you lock your car if the keys are inside, i did a little test where i unlocked it, then i put my keys on the moonroof, and it wouldnt lock, the display said key recognized in vehicle

Keyless Go

It won't lock with a key in the car. It gives you a "key recognized in vehicle" (or something like that) message.

Re: Keyless Go / Remote Unlock

Yet another reason why I won't continue Tele-Aide past the first year (under the current plan). I've also got the Amex Platinum Concierge service (which is excellent), and I live in a metropolitan area and fly if it takes more than 2-3 hrs. to drive. Tele Aide is a nice concept and may work for some. I like mwillems idea about major accident/rollover detection being part of the MB warrenty.
